Hello all,
After 15 years of Porsche 911 ownership (964 to 997), I feel it is time for a change and have decided to go for a GT 1600 junior which I can pamper in my garage..
For weeks I have been searching the internet for the right car withing budget.
Right car would be a 80-90% (or better) sorted car, RHD, red, black interior, original or minimal mods.
Budget up to £21K.
I think I have checked all websites for current cars up for sale but if there are any dealers/cars that you guys know of, please let me know!!
I am based in the NW, J27 M6.
Any advise appreciated!!
Rgds,
Martin

Don't discount the 1300 GT Junior, peachy little revy engine.

Be patient, took me 6months to find my ex Nairobi rust free car.

If you would consider a 2000 GTV, there is a very nice one for sale near me (http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C572032). It's an ex-SA car and has been resprayed so the bodywork looks very good. Underneath it also looks in excellent condition - no rust. The interior is also in very good condition. Shame about the alloys although these could be easily replaced. It's been on sale for at least 8 months (wonder why?) so they might be open to negotiation.

Shouldn't discount any of the 105 Coupe's really. I wonder if you were just using 1600 GTJ as a generic term?.

Why not consider an Lancia Fulvia coupe?

Elegant, economical, tax exempt, easy to source parts, aluminium boot/doors and bonnet and, above all GREAT fun!

1298 cc V4 with double carburettors.

I have 3 ('66/'68/'71) but sadly, due to space, I'm parting with 1 or 2!

If interested, please PM me for full info + pics.

I've kept an eye on that GTV as I'm in the market for one or a GT junior. One photo, poor description , horrible wheels and over priced. A few reasons why it's still hanging about biggrin

Oh and the red spider they have for sale , I nearly bought it for £12k from a lovely guy privately when I was after a spider 3 years ago. Luckily I got an independent inspection done.... dodged a bullet there...... best £250 I've ever spent. Even the seller was a bit surprised with how much wasn't good on it. Unless it's has some serious work done in the meantime , £17k is a bit ambitious.

Thanks for the comments so far.......how about the two vehicles for sale at Justin Banks? Any views on those? Reasonably priced, look very nice or do they?

It's difficult to comment on the Justin Banks cars as recently imported and restored - in my view "restored" means different things to various people and would generally steer clear of recently restored cars unless I personally knew who had restored the cars, etc, etc.

I have brought over 3 cars from South Africa in the last 2 years and the person who sorts out my Alfas has worked on several other recent South African "restorations" which contained a lot of bodges!

Personally I would call Alfaholics and Classic Alfa and Velocesport and ask if they know of any decent cars that may be available- often these change hands without ever having been advertised and they will know the cars very well.

This one looks decent http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C782438

Another Porsche refugee!!

Have a look at the Australian Market also (carsales.com.au) we are still way behind UK prices and far less rust issues as a starting point

This was my entry point back into Alfas after many years of 911's and I love it!

A GT Junior is a great, enjoyable classic, which seems to keep appreciating in price.

The 1600 is, in my experience, a very good engine - it revs very freely right up to the red line - and makes for a very enjoyable drive.

As Jamie says, a well-sorted 1300 is also an enjoyable drive, but I find you have to work harder to keep up if you're driving enthusiatically in a group.

The Junior has the looks, but if you want a great driver's car, don't discount the 4 door Giulia from the same period. I find that they drive and handle better than the Junior. smile
