on a punto mk2 HGT with ABS and rear disc brakes both calipers have seized so ive got replacements just not sure if there are any pitfalls in doing the swap or special tips to ensure a good pedal after disconnecting the lines with loss of fluid and some air entering etc.....during the bleeding op will the calipers bleed fine in situ or should they be tilted upwards so that no air bubbles are trapped in the area behind the pistons?

ive read somewhere new calipers need to be primed with fluid but until youve attached the line on the car i cant see how youll not have air in the caliper to some degree until youve started the bleeding process.

and setting the calipers - is it a case of simply pulling on the handbrake a few times or should the new pads be fitted then manually bring the pistons out as far as possible by turning on the 13mm nut on the back to clamp the disc and sets the pads?

any need to have the engine running during bleeding too? again some say yes others say no need.

1. Pump footpedal, do not touch handbrake
2. Bleed calipers, on car bolted on.
3. Pump pedal till solid.
4. Pull handbrake on and off lots
5. Repeat step 4 whilst pumping pedal.

No need for engine running during bleeding.
