What about it?

It's a non-UK, less desirable variant that has had a later desirable engine put in. Then it's up for sale at a price you'd expect of a nice original unmucked about car.

What's not to like?

From the advert, assuming it's had everything done to a good standard, I don't think it's bad value. I don't think you could achieve this with a totally stock car for the same cost?

Not sure why it would matter that it's not an original UK car?

Looks like a lovely example of a beautiful car. Priced at the higher end, but I've seen these sell for that kind of money.

The GT Junior is a great drive (although I personally prefer the 4-door Giulia of the same period). The 1300 engine, unless very well set up, is a bit under-powered, so the change to the 2 litre will make it much more useable. The 1300/1600 variants have a much more "revvy" engine, which I find a more enjoyable driving experience. The 1750/2000 models have more low-down torque.

A mate has one of these with a 2 liter conversion, but has kept the 1300 engine in case a future owner (who's he kidding, he'll never sell it!) wants originality.

It's a car which always puts a smile on your face.

Price is merely what *someone* is prepared to pay. Is someone a fool just because they purchase something you personally consider overvalued?

Given the advertised spec of the car, what would you consider to be a fair price, assuming a basic stock GT junior in good condition is around £15k (or thereabouts)?

That car is being sold by Arese from Eric Violier, while Erwin Arentsen is the owner of Balocco Classics who I'm sure also has some nice cars for sale.

Yes. Wouldn't that be everyone's definition?

The car being considered had the wrong engine in it and was being sold for a price which would be expected of a car which had the correct engine. Would you buy a Ford Capri 1.3L that had a 2.8 injection engine put in it and pay the amount of a kosher 2.8 injection? Of course you wouldn't.

It may have had a decent restoration, but for the money, I think the original poster would be better waiting and buying a more genuine example.

I'd suggest that with most types of classic the original engine is vital to the values, but with the Bertone it doesn't seem to be quite the case. Most of the time the engine can be easily swapped back and despite the rocketing values the cars tend to be bought to enjoy the driving experience, the bigger engines are quicker and arguably more fun.

That one was still a bit pricey though.

Its just over £30K at the current ER and then I have to get it registered/ duty paid etc which I'm estimating would be another £1K

I would prefer a RHD but not sure I have much choice. May be I should wait for a RHD?

Have you spoken to Ian Ellis, Alfaholics and Classic Alfa? - they are bound to know good cars that may be available and at what price - most importantly, they will know which cars they have looked after and that will save you a lot of money.
