Long story but just got car back from Aflaholics who finished off the restoration to the high level I was expecting. Pictured outside my office in the Devon sunshine after 30 years of being stored in Denmark, its back in the UK again. How do you open the boot! Very pleased with myself!

Scalino, i notice you also have a GT Junior 1300, do you still have the original engine in yours or have you swapped for a larger one?
It still has the original 1300 (rebuilt once in the eighties), still going strong. Maybe not strong in the horsepower departement... (this is what you're getting at I'm assuming), but it's quick enough for me and my usage (running it to the redline it on back roads). Part of the fun for me is that it feels and sounds quick, while it really isn't, which also helps minimise the fines Would a 150-180hp be more fun? Maybe, but not worth it to me (yet). Something that adds in here is that my father's car (a Fiat) is around that top number, so if I want to go quicker I can by taking that one, fortunate I know.
Also if I would go for more power, I would be an idiot and want to use a 1300 and make it a screamer. It would cost a fortune and wouldn't make anywhere near the power (and more importantly torque) of a well built 2.0, but who wouldn't want a 8.000 rpm 1300...? As that will cost an insane amount of money, that's not in the foreseeable future

That is the conclusion I have come to too. I want to keep it original and like you I have another car for more power. I have been discussing putting in a C&B fast cam which should add 15bhp. The feedback I'm getting is that this is the only worthwhile mod to the 1300 engine. It also keeps it looking original as well which I like. Would a 150-180hp be more fun? Pretty much yes, also an electric fan if it hasn't already got that, the cheapest and easiest 3 hp you can gain.Gassing Station | Alfa Romeo, Fiat & Lancia | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
