Told you so.

Honest question... would you buy another Alfa?

Pre pay out my friend obviously said no, but now is looking for a GT.

Blueyes,

Just typed out a really long reply and lost it when trying to post it up !!!

but basically Yes I would because although this is my wifes car - I have had 2 156's in the past and no problems and they are just such great drives - she has lost all confidence in this one and she is covering 150 miles per day at the moment so we will be changing soon but we will be considering the GT 1.9 JTD as an option mainly because I don't see anything else around that looks / drives as good for similar money.

Congrats on the result!

incidentally, my 147 JTDM is now showing 31000 miles - is it worth getting the belt done on this engine too at 36k, or does the weak belt only affect the 2.0 TS?

They normally check them at 36k. We have 1.9TD and 1.6TSparks on our fleet and we have had two go between the 36 and 48k service recently.

If there's evidence they can go at that sort of mileage then I may just get it done.

Bit mystified as to what "checking" a cambelt aims to achieve, though....!

"Yup, it's still there"

If they're going to delve in there they may as well just change it(?) As has been mentioned elsewhere - you're very unlikely to see any damage to a belt without it actually having snapped.

I think you are totally right!

I was under the impression that Alfa UK had decided to bring it forward from the 70 or 80k suggested in the book.

Alfa have officially changed the cambelt change to 36k !!

Please be AWARE of this and make the change asap! (Most alfa specialists charge around £200-250 for a cambelt/tensioner change...it's really not worth the risk)

Harry,

Any chance you can post the address that ARUK provided to you to send invoice, chasis number etc? Our 147 '03' snapped cam belt at 49,000 miles two weeks ago and keen to try to emulate your success with refund from Alfa. Car just been returned today with bill on its way - still not sure of final cost.

Just starting to build my case for Alfa.

Thanks for your help

Andy
