laughbiglaugh indeed it'll be interesting to see how many 8Cs get bought by them on here - after all it's gorgeous so I can't see any reason why any one of these millionaires shouldn't buy one rolleyes

confused Not sure where you two are coming from, to be honest. I misunderstood K Lo's post, thinking that when he said he had cancelled his order he was referring to the 8C and not the Brera. He (or she?) clarified it in their next post, end of confusion.

I've not seen anyone claiming to be a millionaire, maybe you can point out the posts that I've missed?

No just laughing at the number of people generally who say they have orders in for Astons, Alfa 8Cs, GT40s etc.

Ordering any normal car costs £1k deposit which is refundable (I think it was £5k for the AMV8). If you are a punter who likes to gamble with car values appreciating in their first 6 months, which I think a lot of people do, then you don't need to be as rich as you think.

Anyway, you're probably right....

Well, I don't care what anyone else says.
I like mine.
It looks good.
It feels good.
It sounds good.
It gives me pleasure to drive.

(and I got two pairs of skis in it when I was heading off skiing the other week)

"Sensible post on Pistonheads Shock!" this is really what it's all about eh? Doesn't matter what other's think, or if it's not rated as highly as a Honda 2000S in the latest Hokie Cokie cloth-cap reports. If it gives you pleasure then shout about it!

Seconded - My Brera 2.4 JTDM is the most satisfying all-rounder I've ever owned and plays the long-legged swift grand tourer card perfectly. Makes you feel good everytime you walk towards it or go anywhere in it.

My 3.2 is back with the dealer today for the umpteenth time, primarily for them to try & sort out my 18mpg problem. It transpires that they have had similar problems with new owners coming back to get their cars checked out.

Looks like we will have to go for the independant engineer's assessment of the situation which, when he finds that, yes, the car does only 18mpg, will probably result in a legal squabble.

Makes me a bit sad really, 'cus i'm still an Alfa fan & it's only the lack of assistance/interest from the dealer that has resulted in things going this far rolleyes

If they had accepted that the cars are not quite as they seem & 'helped' me into an equivalent ex-demo, it would'nt be an issue now.

What is the book figure? TBH, 18mpg sounds about right. My Q4 (as far as I know, very similar dirvetrain)never gets above 20 around town, even with the air con switched off. Seeing as yours will be somewhat heavier, I don't think it's reasonable to expect any more. Surely all official figures should be taken with a pinch of salt anyway? Driving style, use of electrical equipment, weather, tyre pressure etc all affect it.

I was going to ask the same - my GTV does about 18 around town and only low- to mid- 20's on the motorway.

The book figure is 24.6mpg.

I don't even see above 22mpg if i zero it & do a steady cruise for 50 miles into the countryside, avoiding any kind of congestion/junctions/accelerating etc rolleyes

My old V6 GT used to give me early to mid 20's.

As i handed the keys over to the service guy today, we quickly checked my average over the past 3000 miles, it read........ 17.8mpg eek

It sounds like you're getting closer to the quoted 'urban' figure of 16.7, doesn't it?

Thats it.

If i lived in a city, & spent all day driving around the adjacent towns, then i would expect to see these sorts of figures.

But i dont.

I like both the GT and the Brera, considering both when I change my everyday car in August. I like the Breras 4WD system with the rear bias and don't like the fact that the GT is front wheeled drive. My concern is with the performance of both. I would go for the 3.2 in both but are there ways that the power can be unleashed more? I seem to remember an Alfa dealer telling me that there was an approved Alfa tuning company, but not sure.

Jonny, my wife has a Phase II 3.0 V6 Spider and we really wanted to like the 3.2 (Brera)Spider but when we tested it it felt dull in comparison. It's the weight that kills it. Well the weight and the fact that the GM sourced 3.2 V6 simply isn't a patch on the Alfa Romeo V6. Rich...

Autodelta (www.autodelta.co.uk) has started doing some tuning parts for the Brera, might be worth a look.

You're right.

A little blast in a V6 GT after months in my Brera, confirms how wrong Alfa have got it.

My dealer tells me that Alfa have got some significant changes lined up for the Brera to address these shortcomings.

Bit bleedin late for me, thanks Alfa rolleyes

My local Alfa dealer, SGT, must be so frustrated. I've been using them for years, since I got a V6 164 back in '89 so getting on for 20 years! eek Julian knew full well that we were excitedly looking forward to the launch of the Brera and would almost certainly replace our current Spider with a new one when it came out. Sadly after back-to-back drives in a 3.2 Brera and 3.2 Spider we had to inform him over a cup of coffee that they were a disappointment. Current plan is to hang onto the 3.0 for another year/18 months and then look at a two year old low-mileage Maserati. If we are typical customers then Alfa have lost out on sales with this one.

So the Brera V6 has a different engine to the GT?

Yes. Unfortunately the GT V6 was the last of the classic Alfa V6 engines.

The new V6 (159 & Brera) used a Holden derived bottom end with Alfa heads, valve gear etc.
