So the Brera V6 has a different engine to the GT?
Yes, the GT has the old 'Arese' V6 but the Brera, Spider, and 159 have the new one from the Alfa/GM joint venture - as far as I know, it's a shared block but with pretty much everything else being Alfa-specific.

I don't think there's all that much wrong with the new one - it doesn't sound as good as the old one and it doesn't look as good (not many engines do ) - but there's supposed to be a revised version due later this year or early next year in any case.

edit - yes, what Rick said.

Yes, the new Alfa V6 engine does'nt sound as good, look as good, go as well & seems to have an even bigger drink problem.

To me it just felt sluggish and unwilling to rev, not something you expect form an Alfa V6. The 'old' Alfa V6 was a glorious engine which reved well and sounded glorious, almost akin to a baby Ferrari!

Thanks everyone I do prefer the sound/ look of the original ... I've seen an autodelta GT V6 a year old for just over £20K from a dealer. Something like this might be a better bet rather than going the full hog on a Brera .. and I may prefer it?!

Drive them both and see.
The GT chassis is based on the old 156 and is a long way behind the Brera - I think.

Good advice.

The chasis, roadholding, ride & build quality in the Brera are way in advance of the GT.

So, at the minute Alfa give you a choice of smooth and heavy or jiggly and pert.
Both obviously have their attractions.

the best thing to do is buy a 156 2.5 v6 and enjoy the engine and the noise first.you wont be disapointed.

Does anyone know when the GTA is available. Should I wait for this or get the autodelta version. What does everyone think?

Get the JTDm or wait for them to stick a new V6 in.

After reading the poor reviews of the new V6 and not wanting the JTS ive actually opted for the JTDM on my new Spider.

yes i know Diesels in sports cars seem to have some stigma attached but the 2,4 oil burner is it seems a superiour motor to the 3,2 petrol
I saw a review recently on the 159 and the 2,4 diesel way out performed the 3,2 petrol in mid range acceleration
