Hmm, what's the boot like on the GTV? Ideally I want to be able to carry a mountain bike frame.

I must say I think that's highly improbable. Unless it's a very, very small bike. A standard computer monitor in a box wouldn't fit, for example.

Ciao

I'm after something fun, affordable and RWD

I really need to sell my current car (well technically all three of them!) before I can start test drives etc as I'd feel a bit dishonest taking up peoples time if I didn't actually have the cash to buy it there and then. So, until that point (realistically April, I'd say) the best I can do is pick your brains.

I have to be honest, the alfa idea does appeal less now I've looked into it (I posted this one first) The 3 litre 75 with it's (comparative) thirst, non-folding seats and small boot is probably less practical than spending a little more on a more overtly sporting 944. I still think it trumps things like the 3 series coupe, but looking at it I reckon all of these sports saloons have subjectively similar practicality and running costs to the porsche and I've always had a bit of a soft spot for them. Therefore, I think if I end up going for a saloon/coupe type car it'd be one of those.

However, I do like open cars and the MX5 is smaller, lighter, cheaper to run, more chuckable and even more plentiful than the 944. Truth be told, I think I'll probably end up with the mazda because of these, but I'm still not certain on account of the almost complete lack of luggage space and the rather lack-lustre over taking pace of the standard cars.

So, I don't have my heart set on any one car, but I'm going to get something in the next few months and in the meantime, for s long as you guys are happy to discuss the pro's and con's of your cars I'm interested to listen.

As an owner of a 944 is hugely practical. Big hatch & useable rear seats.
Mine was my daily driver until I got the Jag & did 38K miles in 20 months
with servicing & a clutch slave & a steering coupler. Not ballisticaly quick in real terms although 8sec 0-60 & 135+MPH but a great car.

True, addequate as an everyday car tho even in 8V form and the 220hp S2's are junior-supercar pace. I may yet be persuaded to reconsider the alfas - they are beautiful cars - but for now, it looks like the 944 has got the coupe/saloon option sewn up!
