"The Grande Punto Abarth gets a 1.4 turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 150bhp at 5,500 rpm, boosted to 155bhp with 98RON petrol in the tank"
They make dishwashers with more power than that!!!

Very true but outright power is never the whole story, is it ? The Elise isn't exactly awash with the stuff but it still does the business very well. There are many other examples - Fabia vRS being my personal favourite. Now then a DIESEL Abarth ? That would be worth having.
Exactement mon amis, witness the rave reviews the Panda 100hp has received for evidence that outright power is not the be all and end all.

Perhaps they had a few old Uno Turbo engines left over...
"Hey Mario, how about we remap the old Uno engines, stick 'em in the Grande Punto and cover them with one of those plastic engine covers to make it look modern and then stick an Abarth badge on the car's ass?"
"Aroldo, that sounds like the best idea I've heard this week! Time for our 3 hour lunch break now - let's talk about this later!"
And the Punto Abarth was born...

Er, no. Uno Turbo SOHC, punto Abarth DOHC. Nice work on the stereotype though, how droll!

As stereotypical as you are pedantic my friend. Because I seriously did think that they'd use such an old engine in a car like this...
All joking aside there is supposed to be a twin-turbo version of the 1.4L (16v ) engine but thus far I have yet to see any official statement on the matter. The 150bhp version is definitely confirmed as a (single) turbo charged 1.4L 16v. The booster kit pushes this up to 180bhp (no info yet if it is a dealer fit only option or an over-the-counter DIY upgrade). The power limit though is coded into the ECU. Actual potential is another matter altogther - provided you can do something about the waste heat.
As for the 2L version - yes definitely NA, it has to be in order to meet the Super2000 regulation requirements - no point in building a homologation special with the wrong engine in it...
