how much for an engineless 156
Discussion
Hi All,
A post on behalf of a colleague...
lady in question has a 2000 (x) 156 with the 2.0 litre lump in it.
sadly, her cambelt went the other day (at 48,000 miles, ouch!).
Engine is lunched.
She's considering her option and as the office car nerd, has asked my opinion.
Your comments appreciated please ladies & gentlemen...
thanks

JamesGray on vx220.org.uk bought a 156 SW with a duff engine and tranplanted it. Had a bit of a nightmare though. Might be worth looking at this thread:

Erm, if she has a decent Alfa service history then I would prepare for a little fight before giving up and paying out or getting shot for peanuts. Lots of cases of Goodwill if you appeal to Alfa Head Office. Silly service schedule said it should be done at 72,000 but always should have been 36,000. This has recently been changed.
See this thread for starters

I suspect, if it has never been done then they will rule it out on age anyway (I think it is 72k or every 5 years) but got to be worth a couple of letters.

What touching cloth said. My reps cam belt just went at 47,500 it was even booked in for the 48K service. They did it under the warrenty, yes we extended it but it should not matte if it has had full Alfa service history, they should change it at 36K. I am at around 44k in mine, just waiting for it to snap.

The car is probably only worth a few hundred quid atm.
Another option would be to get these guys( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/alfa-156-147-16 swap her engine for a reconditioned one. Cheapest I've seen too.
