I've been going on about this for a year now, but judgement day is at hand. I'm buying myself a birthday present of one of the above. All things considered, including financial implications, which would you choose?

What about a 155 Q4? There are the odd ones on eBay Italia - no rust/no salt and a lot cheaper than 'Grales!

Intergrale without a moments hesitation...if you really want to get an alfa, spend the extra and buy an SZ.

Good choices, also think White with the Beige alcantara looks the dog's proverbials, but not to everyone's taste.

I think what he means is the cars in Italy don't rust

I am of a different view. Integrales are fantastic cars. However a 164 Q4 is a very rare beast with better build quality and I would choose one over an Integrale. I have owned two 3 litre 164s and despite their size and being front wheel drive the are surprisingly nimble. They come with all the toys and a Q4 would be my choice.

But the 164 Q4 is all wheel drive!

I think he knows that, but is saying the 164 is nimble for its size. Would that be right?

I think the 164 Q4 is very rare - I have never seen one for sale in the UK. I think they are import only?

They, like the integrale, are import only. Worse still they're very rare abroad and if they show up are usually in bad nick. There is currently one on autoscout international in Germany for half the price of an Evo. It's the cost that's worrying me

I do know that. What I am trying to say is that if a FWD is a good car then a 4WD should be mega.

having had 164's in 2.0 Litre and Cloverleaf form I would suggest that the Q4 may still be a little less than brilliant dynamically as it is the V6. The V6 is still a pretty heavy unit and I can't see four wheel drive doing much to tame the overwhelming understeer compared to the Twin-Spark. I would consider the 155 Q4 as it had the four pot lump it should be better balanced. The Steyr-Puch 4WD system in the 164 is also going to be cripplingly expensive if it goes wrong. But both make a change from the Lancia which, great car though it is, is a little more obvious. If you want a fast 164 how's about...

nice mid mounted V10 and good for 215mph should do the job and handle nicely too. Road legality may be touch and go I grant you.

Was it not a V10? or was that another incarnation of the 164?

Damn you're quick! I had just gone back and changed it after a quick throttle body count. I had thought that they used their V8 F1/sports car engine but no. I didn't know Alfa had ever done a 10 cylinder.

Pedantic to say the least

My car knowledge is very much alfa, lancia and fiat based so I tend to pick up on things quick enough, I still can't recognise MBs?

I think you're point is very valid though I've had a hankering for a Delta since childhood and as a 166 driver I'm very attracted to the 164. Upset I missed the recent black cloverleaf on ebay.

I think I'm sold on the Delta, though it's twice the price. Better to nip it in the bud.
