Bloody Stupid - I have this power with the power going to the right end - Spot on.

Alfa are knackered my being owned by Fiat and not be allowed RWD (unless limited edition).

Loved my GTV6 (RWD - Bloody Awesome Engine powering the right end!)

How did Alfa manage to win the touring car championship with FWD vs Rwd?

Ah a lover of the FWD silly power brigade. They one that cose the weight of the RWD was about 100kg at the time and they had a major jump on the rest by VERY Late Homoloation of the aero kit that teams found in the boot!

And they are far from road cars BTCC caras on smoth tarmac. That power through the front of just stupid.

Dob't they make a 4x4 system that the could use this on? That would be going in the right direction

Do you think BMW buying Alfa would be good?
Back to RWD maybe, run Alfa into the ground like Rover?

For those of you thought that Ford was going to get rid of Jaguar next we’ve got some news for you. Industry experts have told AutoCar that BMW is seriously considering on making a bid to takeover Sweden auto maker Volvo. BMW has requested a complete breakdown of Volvo’s current financial position from a European investment bank. Source have said that BMW is looking to expand its lineup which has always been centered around driving pleasure and that Volvo would add a huge safety factor to the company’s focus.

If the takeover happens, it is expected that the larger Volvo saloons and estate models will be switched to BMW platforms while the smaller cars, like the Volvo C30, will be switched to the Mini family.

Sources also said that BMW considered taking over Alfa Romeo as well.

RWD Car or BMW ownership? Close call think the BMW option just wins.

FWD great for popping to the SHOPS.

... at least then BMW might realise what the "ultimate driving machine" actually is.

P.S. I second the vote for the Alfetta GTV6. The FWD cars are good, but somehow I still find a 400bhp 147 less appealing than a 135bhp Alfetta GTV. Or a GTV6 for that matter.

Alfetta GTV6 with pumped arches and the Late DTM 155 (or what ever it's numeber was with 450 odd bhp) - now that would be THE CAR.

.... a bit like this?

www.arcsa.co.za/glenwood.html

Saw this car at Zwartkops racetrack near Pretoria, utterly murdering a brace of turbocharged 4wd Audi saloons as well as assorted vehicles with American V8s until about halfway through the race when it suffered a turbo failure of some sorts. It still came second.

There were a few twin turbo Alfetta GTV6s running around in South Africa. One, owned by Stuart Kidgell, won South Africa's Fastest Street Car title three times in a row. It was a 3.2 litre twin turbo V6. Apparently he's currently running an Ultima powered by... wait for it... a twin turbo Alfa V6. (link below..)

www.cartorque.co.za/0213.htm

For the Alfettas they used to mount a BMW (probably Getrag as per that Glenwood Alfa) to the back of the engine, and replace the transaxle with an Alfa Six diff. There was no solution I am aware of that would make the original Alfa box work with the torque. The cars were scarily fast. Some googling will turn up more pics of the car. It's all over the SA forums.

[/quote]Best check - I don't think so - know they won 94 - think Beemer a few after that then the 155 was uncompetitive and they left. RWD winning with the weight penalty once they had their aero kit.

FWD=Shopping/Good Tow Cars/for the wife/getting to work - mind I do drive a Puma most days - but then the power is at sensible level so as not to overwhelm the chassis!

Alfa Romeo only won the championship in 1994. BMWs last championship win was 1993.

Or so wikipedia says.

I have had powerful FWD and RWD cars and I like them both. I recently chose my GTV in preference to a Chimeara mainly because I had serious doubts about the safety of my wife driving the TVR in the wet, she is far less likely to get herself into trouble on a wet Perthshire back road in the GTV(if the car had been only for me I would have bought the TVR). Regarding the power overwhelming the chassis I find that the GTV copes very well, the only time it is an issue is doing emergency starts in the wet where wheel-spin = more revs = more power = more wheel-spin. Modern esp equipped cars may be a different matter though.
I think Alfa will move more towards RWD when funds permit it.

I have doubts about my own safety if needing to drive the Chim in seriously wet conditions - I'd be barking to chance it having the Mini and (300ish hp) Saab at my disposal. Horses for courses and all.

I know, and the Alfa is cheaper to run, more reliable, better made etc, its a damn good car but I still find myself looking through the TVR classifieds on here.

You seriously need to do some homework , Alfa won European Touring cars 2000-2003 with the 156, hows that for a shopping car?

I presumed we mean't BTCC.

Either way these toy cars in s2000 spec only make about 280bhp and with slicks and trick diffs have no problem getting that to a smooth race track.

Try adding another 125bhp and they would be un driveable and the RWD would spank them.

THERE IS A LIMIT.....

For the Road it is about 240 - 250bhp - look at that 3.2 147 think - Laughable Torque steering great soundsing pointless car.
