Sorry if this is a repost, please point in the right direction if it is.

A freind has an Alfa 147 1.6 which is a 53 plate and done 40000miles.

The cam belt has just broken.

The service book is stating it should be replaced at 72000m or 5years and the dealer is saying that it should be 36000miles and that Alfa changed the recommended interval sometime last year. He asked them if he could have that in writting and everyone he talks to goes very quite.

Has anyone had any experiences like this? it seems that Alfa have dropped a clanger and are trying to keep it quiet.
Does anyone think he has redress to Alfa for this problem?
He is on their mailing list because they have sent him letters before so they could have contacted him to tell him of the change.

Alfa have changed the TS belt intervals to 36k.

As the above poster has said, Alfa do give out sometimes give "compensation", especially now they are trying to promote their image to sell the newer models & show they have half decent details.

I had this happen on my wifes 2.0 147 cost me £1700 to sort out !!!!
It was an 03 plate with 48K on the clock - much persistence with Alfa got me all of my cash back - private mail me through my profile if you want and I can forward you copies of letters I sent and contact details etc etc.
