I'll probably be taking a long lunch break on Monday to take a look. Hope it drives as well, as on looks at least Alfa have shown that you can get away with selling above your normal price range. Audi, take note.

I really dont understand Alfa on this car. Why is it limited to 500? Its not an uber supercar that costs them billions to make, so why limit it? Anyone know if its a serious loss maker????

Ferrari always said, "work out how many you can sell, and build one less". I think Alfa could sell 30,000 of these, even at over 100k. So why dont they? Do they really think we're all going to rush out and buy 159's just because we might think its a real alternative to an 8c ?

One other point. Always thought Alfa engines looked sexy. Got the dolly bird at the Genevea Motorshow to open the rather sexy looking bonnet to show us the engine. Got her to close it again rather quickly, as it was a bit of a minger visually....
It's just very simple :
1. "Priced at close to £110,000, the all-carbon-fibre 450 bhp 4.7 litre V8 powered two-seater is...." It is priced close to 110.000, but Alfa makes no profit with this car...hell, Alfa will make no profit till 2010 in general (Marchionne explained that they want to make a profit with Alfa in 2010. Alfa can only make a profit, when they manage to sell 300.000 cars p.a. Today, they're producing less than 200.000 cars p.a.)Alfa is still supported by the profits of the Fiat brand. Beside of that, it was only planned as a "halo-model", therefore exclusive and rare.

2. It's a Maserati engine, not a Alfa Romeo engine! Alfa has no self developed V8 (just V6 engines). They have to stick with the engines Maserati is using...(And this V8 is a Ferrari-derived engine...)

3. Why not start a new british kit-car company, which produces "Alfa-Romeo 8C" kit cars ?
You could base it on a Corvette....and sell it for a lot less than the original.....
Just wait till the production of the 8C ends...than buy a cowshed in Bristol...call the whole venture "Omerta-cars Ltd. Bristol"...raise the production to 2000 cars p.a. and then offload the company to a rich Russian oligarch who just bought before a garden centre in Suffolk...buy a new shiny Aston Martin and nice big house and enjoy the rest of your life with the money you made by selling this company and the rent you get for the cowshed....

Beautiful piece of automotive engineering art. It's a good job that they're all sold out as the price tag is about £100,000.00 more than I could afford.

Anyway, I read somewhere (maybe here on Piston Heads)that they plan to race these at Le Mans with a full works team. That would be awesome. I reckon they'd give Aston, Corvette, Saleen & Ferrari something to think about in GT1. Can't wait!!!

and I was just thinking of selling a kidney....
Good that they are sold out - most beauyful motor coming out of Itay for years- wonder if they made it sound ALFA (there were ALFA V8s in the past- in Formula 1 in the 80s and in the gorgeous Montrral in the 70s..) i.e. more bassy like Fezzas and if the starter motor is less whyney hehe

Hopefully will be able to afford a second hand one once the celebs will sell them off for the next "it" car....

There is I understand it a little more to the story than just 500 8C cars being made, but thats a little *cough*ahem* territory.
Would be more than interested to know what you, cough, know, cough on this point! Please pm if appropriate.

The front side shot is probably the best looking I've seen.... shame I can't say say that for the rest of the car but still one of the prettiest cars to come from Italy for a while now...

Is it me, or is the first photo in this story the last photo likely to have ever been taken by the photographer?

Long way down!

I really cannot believe anyone could find this ugly. I really dont care how it drives either, could be a tin of old bolts, the chances of me ever owning one of these - as they're already all bought, are remote to say the least. Surely the point of these are to turn heads - and this to me is the most head turning car around at the moment. Good on Alfa for going ahead with it, just wish it was half the price.

Give me a break ! Quit listening to Clarkson, because half the time he doesn't know what he is talking about. I am no Vette fan, but it does not have leaf springs .. as in one on each wheel. It has a single composite transverse spring to add stability and save weight. Besides, if they can get the car to handle as good as just about anything out there with string and bamboo, what would you care?

Great, I'm in the City on Monday so will pop down to Canary Wharf, it's certainly the best looking car I've seen in years, I'd love one including it's Ferrari derived engine! smile

I'm talking principles here, and coming up wit a kit car for the Alfa just doesn't seem right. I'm cool with classic kit cars for cars that went out of prouction last century, but this just doesn't sit right...

But let me put it differently; would you buy a Alfa 8C lookalike with a Corvette chassis and fiberglass mockup?

Too true, come on guys get serious, there's a place for kit cars but you cannot hope to replicate one of the most drop dead gorgeous Italian cars ever produced and expect it to have any credibility!

It would be great if Alfa could make an 8c 'lite' for around £30K. I'm sure they could and it would be serious competition for the new Audi TT?

I wonder what the value of an 8c will be in 5 years time yum
