Alfa Spider 2.4 JTD
Discussion
I've got the Brera with that engine in and I like it. It can be a bit lazy at very (very!) low revs, as if it has a huge flywheel. I suspect it's some Euro emission thingy because my old Sportwagon with this engine in didn't suffer from it. Having said that, once it's up and running it goes very well indeed. Noise is good for a diesel. One thing I would say is that this engine needs quite a few miles on it to start performing and I suspect a Spider won't have many miles on it yet. An example with 5,000 miles plus on it drives much better than a brand new one for instance.

Thanks for the advice all, I test drove the Brera 2.4 yesterday, cracking engine with some serious torque, and the brakes are definitely better than the 2.2 spider I tried.
So after considering it for about .1 of a second I've just ordered it this morning! Should arrive in October
Excellent - I hope you can stomach the wait, its driving me mad! What colour did you go for?So after considering it for about .1 of a second I've just ordered it this morning! Should arrive in October

Good choice that man!
I really wanted the BOSE as well but I didnt get a choice on the spec as I managed to secure a car that had just entered production.
I have the 18" teledials, Alfa Red with black leather - will be nice to have another new shape Spider on the board!
Saw the picture on the other thread. Very nice how long have you had to wait? Just curious as I'm trying to get an idea of a realistic lead time as I may have to extend the lease on the 147, Alfa UK are quoting 16 weeks at the moment.I really wanted the BOSE as well but I didnt get a choice on the spec as I managed to secure a car that had just entered production.

Id say 16 weeks is about on the money.
I ordered it week 14.
It entered production @ the factory week 15
It arrived in the UK week 23.
Im expecting it at the dealer end of week 26.
So you might even get it a little bit quicker. Can I ask who you ordered with as I have had a reasonable amount of bullsh!t frm my dealer and wonder if you will have to suffer the same.
It's ordered through Lex who in turn use Sidlows in Reigate.I ordered it week 14.

The waiting is hard. I ordered my Brera JTD last year in May. Didn't get it until mid September but well worth the wait.
The brakes are the best I've had on an Alfa (not saying much I grant you!). Whacking great Brembo four pots at the front and vented disks all round. Great stuff.
I recently got chance to give some of the new Alfa's a thrash around Croft, tried out a 159 3.2Q4, a Brera 2.2 and a Spider 2.4JTD. I have to say against my expectations I preferred the spider out of all three, it was negligibly slower on the straights than the 3.2 159 yet was 10MPH up on the 2.2 Brera. OK there was a bit of understeer on the bends and the TC was holding things back when the Q4 on the 159 was putting the power down well, but on the whole it seemed the best real world compromise to me.
I'm sure you will enyoy it when it arrives
