The GT only has the 1.9 16v diesel, either in 150 or 170hp form. The GT is very 147 based, so im guessing they didnt have the stuff available to easily fit a 2.4 in there with stock parts.
Half true - the GT diesel only ever came with the four-pot lump, but the 2.4 made it into the 156 in several guises, including the 200bhp 20v version. If the 2.4 could go into the 156, I can't see any good reason why it wouldn't go in the GT. I reckon Alfa missed a trick...

I know the 156 had 2.4 lump, but im guessing the GT is much more 147 based then 156 based. according to wikipedia the GT uses the same front wings and bonnet as a 147 (GTA in case of the wings apparently). Perhaps it really was a case of not having the stock parts to make it fit.

The 2.4 din't make it into the GT because Fiat knew the JTD 2.4 would be quicker than the Petrol version. That's why the Stilo JTD outsold the Abarth.

I sold an awful lot of Stilo Abarths but yes I reckon I sold more JTD variants. Shame really.

I had a few Stilo Abarth's as company cars and absolutely loved them, fondest memories are of the Punto Sportings that I had though.

I then moved to Alfa and the 1.9 JTD GT was a fantastic car, had a couple. Best wafter was my facelift 166, loved that car yes

Ahhh memories.

The original plan for my Fiat Coupe 16V Turbo plus project was to take the engine and gearbox out, drop those into my Bravo HLX making a Lancia Delta HPE-esque Bravo 16V Turbo (again like the car Fiat didn't make because it would have taken sales from the Bravo HGT, Coupe and Lancia) then drop a 2.4 JTD into the Coupe shell with an EGR bypass and redneck nitrous 156's have seen 11 second quarter mile times and limiter bouncing in top.

I've owned a couple but much prefer the HLX with the 1.8 16V 128 block engine. Less weight over the front axle so less under steer into lift off over steer. Very well balanced and deserves twice the power. hehe

I remember taking a HLX to Slough for a training course, I felt ever so the rep hehe

I'm not sure there's a model of Alfa or Fiat that I didn't have during that time! Ahh happy days!

Nearly there

The car has finally arrived in the UK and delivered to me today still showing her SA number plates. What a journey it has been. Some detailing to do, prep for the MOT and hopefully we will be on the road in a month.

Thanks.

a bit of a fake duct smile. The bulge in the bonnet was raised to fit the 6 carbs, duct shaped for aesthetics only smile

Your car looks the business, here is my second one which recently arrived from RSA. as you say, what a journey it has been....complicated by the engine swap (3.2 24v GTA engine) but now at Alex Jupe's for MOT, cambelts, etc.

Mine is a track car, rollcage, autodelta bits, uprated brakes, RSR suspension, etc, plan to keep her as is for the moment.
