Just bought an old TVR part restored and dont now think I will have the time to do it as it is more work than I anticipated.
I think it's a Taimar or a 3000M as there are no docs with it and no plates.
the chassis has been shot blasted and painted and is seperate from the body, it has a turbo V6 engine and four speed box with it.
I'm thinking of selling it off in bits, so any ideas as to whether I'll get a decent price for the bits, enough to cover my outlay would be good.
Any thoughts appreciated
Dave
P.S. my dad regestered on the site ages ago when we were looking for a TVR to track and hillclimb so I'm using it to find out about this heap we just bought.rolleyeswas hoping to be at Guston Down with something this season but dont hold yer breath.smile

fancy buying a wreck and turbo charged. With fuel prices the way they are you will end up paying someone to take it away. No identity and in bits. Big mistake

Can you post any pictures of the wreck. Does the car still have a chassis number, The M sometimes had a chassis number stamped on it?
Any car without documents can be saved, It would just mean that its approx age would have to be ascertained and then an age related reg number could be allocated or at worst a Q Plate.

Does the car have an opening rear hatch or a fixed rear windscreen?

Not sure I agree with you (but I'm maybe biased)wink.

Chassis number will be stamped on the top chassis rail near the fuel regulator, and so getting an age related plate (maybe even the original) should be straight forward.

A Turbo M or Taimar bought at the right money is hardly a liability, and if the basic chassis has been refurbed, I dont see why the OP has deemed the car a wreck?

Get it on classifieds with some good photos and I'm sure it will get some interest.

hahaha. In fact quite the opposite my friend. I think this must be the best way to buy a project... perhaps apart from the lack of ID.

Yet your profile says...

My cars include a 1932 Bugatti type 51 which was my fathers, a 1962 3.5 litre V8 Mercedes Cabriolet, a 1999 5 litre Chimaera, TVR Sagaris and a Range Rover Sport as a sensible car

Had a look today and there is a thick metal tab welded to the top of the chassis on the nearside front.
It is hard to read but as far as I can make out it says ?4?8?M
I would guess at 44?8FM but wouldn't swear to it.
The rear hatch opens up and it has a wooden dash, I will get some pics over the weekend as it is up at the farm.
It is orangey red with a white stripe down the side and has polished slotmags and a huge Garrat turbo stuck on the front of the engine, probably someone turboed it at sometime to up the power. Other than that it looks standard with cast iron block, alloy heads, and I think a weber carb. there is a fancy engine management box wired in to the ign that looks a bit prehistoric, must have been pre ECUs.
Looks a bit complicated to me so might look at selling the engine and sticking a V8 in it. What could I expect for the engine and would it finance a V8 that's the question ?
Any info apprieciated.

So what is your outlay.
and How much do you want for the car as a complete Chunk?

M's are rock bottom at the moment because the cost of a proper resto are about 5 times what they sell for.

Doubtless you could break it but you should be ostracized for doing so.

Oh dear!!!
The guy I bought it from said he had owned it for many years and used it as a track car, he said that he had sold the identity to a mate who was restoring a barn find with no docs as he just intended to race/track it as it was an old car.
It has been laid up for a long time and he had started to get in ship shape for racing again but ran out of time and interest.
I thought it was worth the 500 quid as I wanted to track/hillclimb it and it was all there with refurbed chassis and new polybushes in the suspension so after transport etc it dosn't owe me that much.
Looks like I'll have to sell the bits off and destoy whats left just in case it is stolenwhistle
Just my luck that is but I'll try and find out some history because it may be genuine you never know.
Is there any more ID marks on it that I can check as the chassis tag is shot blasted to much to read propperly and the windows are not etched so it could just be an old Taimar wiith a turbo conversion, it looks like a bodge job as the exhaust pipes are rough and there are bits of wire everywhere, it dont look like a factory job to me.scratchchin

P.S. whats ostrasized mean?

P.P.S. I've seen lots of old red and white TVRs , I think someone is having me on herenono

I think you should advertise it as a complete car without ID for racing / project and stick it on Pistonheads with a Photo.
Even if it isn't a proper Turbo you will get £4-500 for it as a project i would have thought.

its always a shame to break a car that doesn't need to be.

That sounds like a plan but I would be looking at 750 hopefully to cover costs. I'm going to check with the seller and find some history first (dont want the law knocking at the gate) meanwhile I'm going to sulkconfused

I'll give you what you paid for it and a 100 quid profit if you want it off your hands.

There you go Valvesetter.

You will find that most TVR Entusiasts never want to see a re-buildable car broken up.

That seems a fair offer to me.

I bet the TVR badge on the rear number plate light is missing, and you know how hard they are to find!
