Derek Bell's memories of Noel Pasteau, the former patron of the Hotel De France who sadly passed away at the weekend. Many of you who visited the hotel over the years will remember M.Pasteau as a consummate hotelier with an unrivalled passion for the Le Mans 24 Hours. RIP.

Despite the 'flu I was there to pay my respects. A good turnout and a couple of classics too.

Motorsport mag did a little piece on the Hotel De France last issue. I'd like to stay there.

Good effort going across for Noel's funeral, did you meet Martin, who bought the hotel at then end of 2013?

Seemed apt that the hotel also made an appearance on the Classic Car Show on the day Noel was laid to rest.

Was he there? I saw Sally, the manageress, I saw Christophe, I saw the son who flew in from Canada, I saw Francis, Noel's son, saw no illuminati, not even Francis' wife (who had gone on holiday instead) no ACO, but quite a number of friends. He died quietly, sitting in his armchair, legs crossed on the stool, and was found like that the next day. He was due to fly out to Canada the very next day.

Hi yes Martin was there, tall chap, black hair, would have been with Sally. DB was over in the US, he paid a touching tribute to Noel though.

Because of the 'flu and coughing so much, I apologised in advance and only went to the reception at the Hotel de France afterwards. Seemed better than upsetting the service. This was the 4th of 5 funerals for me in a month, and if any of you go to St. Saturnin the man who made it happen, John Curtis, died on the 21st February after a long illness. I am sure they will remember him on the Friday this year.
