Hi, It seems to vary on which year you had. I just replaced mine a couple of weeks ago on my 96 chim 500. The 072 battery(available from most halfords etc) was a direct replacement for the one fitted. I think the bigger size battery on younger cars is a 075. The battery number should be shown on the battery. The battery box unbolts from through the floor, and can then be withdrawn from the car and battery removed. Make sure you clearly mark the posistion of the box for easy replacement.

My Chim(2000 X reg) came from the factory with an "072" battery, an "072" only comes in one size.

Steve Heath has the battery section on the Web somewhere... I dont think there is type 72 made that comes close to the CCA he mentions ~ which has caused lots of confusion. I believe the 096's are about as meaty as you can get. Varta 096 reverse has done me sterling service (and I've abused it...) ~ the reverse has the terms the right way round & it fits very snuggly in the box.

TVR had a factory in Blackpool somewhere...

they fitted an 072 in mine from new(2000 X reg), I suspect they had a clue as to what battery to fit to their own cars smile

You must be a very gullible chap indeed... How many times have you had your 072 replaced to date?

I may well be, but in my defence, I would like to think that my decades in the motor trade have allowed me to be a little more informed and less gullible than most when it comes to cars.

In answer to your question, I try to replace things before they let me down as opposed to after. When the ORIGINAL battery was about 6 years old I figured it would be a good move to fit a new one before it packed up. I don't pay what some do for a battery(my mate wholesales them to the trade) so it seemed like a good idea to change it regardless when it suited me rather than the battery.
I have never jump started my car once since I have owned it(over 5 years), it has never failed to start first time even after once sitting unused for over a month.

Imagine how many years I could have got out of the original fitment if TVR had fitted the right one hehe

I replaced the battery om my 1997 450 recently and wished that I had done so ages ago. I replaced what I think was the original with an Exide XP07. It fits in the battery box perfectly, has a Cap Ah of 75 and CCA of 760, what more could you want? Starts first go every time. Dimensions are L278 W175 H190.

I fitted an 096R made by Banner (called the Starting Bull as it's used for Lambo's). It spins the thing like a top - great battery, although just a few quid short of a ton...
