. . . .was to make an extendable bonnet stay, this it "in the raw" prior to a bit of tidying up and a lick of paint.

Quick twiddle of the thumb screw thing and back to standard length to fit in the retaining clip

Stops me getting bored coffee

Would it be rude to suggest you should get out more!

The cleanliness of the engine bay would tend to confirm this.

Not a bad idea though.

I think that's a little unfair...

With the amount of time you have to open and close the bonnet on a TVR, I think the bonnet stay is a sensible addition!!! smile

I'm surprised that the bonnet doesn't ground and stop you from lifting it higher than the normal bonnet stay anyway, so what have you done abiout that??

Not a lot Jim ! guess it depends how low car sits in the first place, but I've got fair bit of room for extra opening.

ground to top of wheelarch is 27"
ground to bottom of outrigger is 8"
ground to bottom of exhaust is 4"

Would like it to sit a bit lower so the wheels "fill" the arches better but don't really want exhaust much closer to speed bumps etc. and Avo's are currently wound down as low as they will go.

You know I think you might be onto something here...

I have the XJS strut which looks great and is a great idea...

however, the strut is so strong it twists my bonnet and no matter how I fiddle with it I cant get the bonnet open easily when its fitted. I had thought of a weaker strut from somewhere as when the bonnets up its at or around the pivot point anyway so theres not much weight actually on the strut. The other thing is the XJS strut is slightly too long for my setup and as often as not the bonnet digs into the dirt unless the wheels are on blocks.

So taking a lead from your idea I think I'll bust the damper, keep the strut and add some kind of screw-collar to limit the opening... watch this space...

I'm also bringing a pile of 6mm rod ends to SCH for anyone to use to make their own strut/support/whatever

not long now...
