EU proposals to ban all cars pre 92'?

There is a pilot scheme in Stuttgart to ban older cars from city centres, Edinburgh may followed suit.
"Several EU proposals across the years are dangerous to the classic car movement. One that has been under consideration is to ban the use of cars older than 10 years. Similarly, Edinburgh City Council is considering the banning of cars over 15 years old from the town centre. These, and similar, proposals directly threaten the classic car movement, and encourage the manufacture of new cars, with the attendent environmental issues of sourcing raw materials, manufacturing, distributing and scrapping the spiralling supply of new vehicles."

Where is this quoted from please?
In Germany the scheme exists in a lesser form, at least in Heidleburg, A garage owning friend said to us last year it can cost up to 900 Euros to keep an older car on the road, every year.....
He reckons it's a way of kick starting the car ownership into newer models, rather than anything else.
Kip.

How many more times are we going to have this bollox posted up with a link to that damned petition?
It is nothing to do with whether your car is 10 or 15 years old, or any age, or a classic car or not. It is based on emmissions. The vast majority of brand new ordinary cars will also not be able to pass the proposed limits. They are only talking about the town centre, and only for a limited number of days when pollution is high, and there are only a few towns in Germany that are considering it. On the 35 days in question it will very likely mean all cars are banned anyway. It would also be very easy to put in place exemptions for 'Old Timers' as they say in Germany, and historically important vehicles.
I am not being complacent, I have an old car, and love classics too. But I remember 15 years ago when unleaded petrol was introduced, and that was allegedly going to destroy classic car ownership, in fact from the way it was presented, you might have thought that the sole reason for introducing it was just to spite classic car owners.
On the numerous other threads on this subject, no-one has been able to demonstrate that the the whole raison d'etre for the petition has any basis in fact.
Post up the link to the actual draft proposals that are even to be considered by Edinburgh, let alone passed. Demonstrate to me that the threat is real.
Red Arrows are going to be banned you know, did you sign?

You have to remember though that this is the same bunch of shitheads who wanted to introduce a congestion charging scheme, only for the local population to tell them to shove it up their arses.
Just because a bunch of politicos wants to do something doesn't mean we have to go along with it. We still live in a democracy, though it's good to keep warning people about this sort of thing.
As I think somebody once said, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
Now Mr Green..
First off, I dont like your tone Sir.
Take a look at my number of posts.. I have not pre today spent an awful lot of time here, so am unaware of what and how often things are posted. So before you start with your rude sarcasm, maybe you would take that into consideration.
Next, it is a petition, an as an owner of 2 classics thought it was worth the 4.9 seconds of my time to sign it, that and it is deemed to me to be a ridiculous notion.
So I'll thank you for your time, dont like dont reply.
Simple.

Ok, first things first.
Its a repost of a repost. Of a repost. This petition has been on PH at least 3 times in the last week alone. Its not a criminal offence (yet) to post reposts, but it does get annoying. I've done reposts by accident so its easily done.
In the last reposts, and in yours, no one has actually provided any information about the proposed ban, other than the link to the petition.
PH is not a forum where you can simply get away with presenting a petition like this with nothing to back it up.
I too am in the bracket of having a "classic", although a 88 E plated Golf 16v Campaign with a total rebuild is pushing the boundaries of the classic definition though. When i've looked at the actual proposals to ban old cars in the past, they have been nothing more than a suggestion than some desperate MEP trying to make himself famous.
Finally, can you imagine all those Italians driving shabby old Fiats, or the Czech Republic with its fleet of very old cars, implimenting a ban on cars older than 92?
I cannot give any more information than what was provided..as previously stated, I thought it was worth a look.
On another UK forum I am a moderator, so know full well how many times things can be re-posted, and indeed how it can become annoying.. so if you wish for this to disappear, tell me the name of a moderator here, and the job, as they say is done.
Thanks for your time.

[Michael Winner mode]Calm down dear, it's only a post on an internet forum[/Michael Winner mode]

Blimey, sorry.
If you're going to stick around, better develop a thicker skin than that, please be carefull in the Pie & Piston, it can get a bit heated in there.
BTW, have you signed my 'Please don't ban Marmite' petition? There aren't actually any plans to ban Marmite, but don't let a simple thing like the facts get in the way. It certainly doesn't for most of the knee-jerk reaction to an unfounded scaremongering claim that appears to be the MO of nearly all the petitions that are set up.
The Red Arrows one was indeed a classic, and we had to endure that one being posted up several times a day on every forum for weeks on end.
So it's bogus then - I rather thought as much.
Some of these petitions are becoming the equivalent of hoax virus warning e-mails, i.e. a s*dding nuisance!
However..... in some Australian states you can't use a classic car unless it's on an organised Club event, you can't use it for weddings unless it's a family wedding and in Germany there are 'April to October only' restrictions on Old Timers (which is not so bad given all the salt dumped on UK roads in the winter months.)
All in all, we're rather fortunate - let's hope it stays that way, eh?
