Subaru Legacy vs Ford Mondeo
Discussion
I am stuck between these 2 cars! We need a family runaround type thing.
Mondeo Ghia X 2.0 petrol
Subaru Legacy 2.0 SE Petrol.
I have driven both, and both are excellent cars, I think the interior quality of the mondeo is a tad above the Subaru, but they both drive well and have the same levels of kit, pretty much.
They also both cost the same.
Anyone offer an opinion?

Subaru. Very underrated cars, and no where near as common.
AWD as well, if you are into that.
I have an Outback as a work wagon and it's excellent. 90,000 miles on the clock. Very comfortable and secure.
We also have a 97 Legacy sedan with over 300 on the clock and only standard service items replaced apart from a new radiator

Are you buying new or used, hopefully the latter as both of these will depreciate like the proverbial stone. Consequently however used buys will be fantastic value, I have just picked up a 3 year old 3.0 Spec B Legacy Tourer and think it is excellent; however I have heard the 2.0 Legacy is a touch on the slow side, especially given it will be driving all the extra 4wd gubbins and extra weight in comparison to the Mondeo - also think there were 2 power outputs on the 2L, early ones around 130 with later ones more like 160 (probably to make amends for lack of pace), maybe it's the earlier ones that were particularly criticised for pace. Other than all that, I'd be picking the Scooby over a Mondeo every time.

It's the later one.I am buying used of course

I really don't care about telling people what I drive, I have driven both but for some reason there doesn't seem to be a clear winner! The legacy definatley has the edge on looks though

I agree and maybe the last line of my original post sounded dismissive of the Mondeo which it wasn't meant to, just that that is the decision I came to and don't regret - Sure 10 years ago I wouldn't have bought a Ford but these days would rather have Mondeo than a 3 series I think, they look ok and they drive well - Beemers and Audi's hold their money too well as used buyers load up the price on not much more than badge value - certainly I was looking at St220's as options before I got the Scooby, ultimately the 4wd thing swung it for me though not just a badge - Subarus are pretty much Q car kings, they say very little anyway but in a good way

Last time I checked Ford were pretty good carmakers, well damn good considering their price and target market.
Can honestly say I've never driven a Ford I would describe as good, well other than a MkII Mexico. Even the '30 miles on the clock' Focus I had as a courtesy car lasted less than the length of the forecourt before it had to be returned (well you can't expect a little used item such as the indicator stalk to stay attached for ever, I suppose.)Davi said:
