I think that the baying PH massive are just embarrassed that these guys have the balls to stand up for themselves, and actively demonstrate and take on the Legal System, whilst we post rants on a web forum...
Remind me what it is they are 'fighting' for.
It doesn't matter - they have got off their arses and done something.

There is far too much anti-terror legislation stopping us from our lawful right to protest.
What?? What have the done??? What have they protested against or about????

Apart from be a pain in the arse for people who PAY to use the roads!!!
ah you see you had a decent argument and went and blew it with the 'we pay for the roads' crap. council tax pays for the roads, not car tax.
If you want to drive a car on the road you have to pay VED, bicycles don't. Therefore we PAY for the roads, no matter how you shuffle the wording.
don't be a c0ck!
Most of the roads come out of council tax not VED
FFS!!!!! You are totally missing the point Motorists pay a HUNDRED or more pounds a year for each car for the pleasure of using the roads. Bicycles use them for free! Get your heads around it girls!!!!

ETA. There really does seem to be a lot of Pistonheads members who feel the CM are perfectly okay doing what they do.

Could this idiocy be spreading?

Driving home tonight in Nottingham I came across a couple of dozen two-wheeled lentil munchers all cycling at about 2mph on one of the busiest roads out of the city centre. They were deliberately blocking traffic and moving as slow as possible. fking idiots - won't be at all surprised to read in tomorrow's news that at least one of them got knocked over, and from the way they were behaving then it would serve them bloody right.

as does ever driver of a vehicle emitting less than 120 gram of co2 per kilometre and ever classic car user. you know, that's about the 16th time i've typed that in the last week and still no-one of the 'tax cyclists' brigade has seen fit to comment on it. funny that. is it because it completely undermines your argument perchance? pillocks.

Oh yes. This lot were moving even slower, right past my office today. Like you say, 'twunts'. They should be taxed. And arrested. And then run over.

I pay VAT on PSP22...

anyway, these people pay less tax on petrol, yes. because their cars use less of it. i use less petrol still when i'm riding my bike. if you run an electric car you don't pay fuel duty on that either.

really, you aren't arguing with 5 year olds here, if you are going to argue something it's wise to make sure it actually makes sense first.

Ok, serious reply. I have no problem with cyclists, and as a responsible driver I always treat them with both courtesy and caution. What I have a problem with is sanctimonious two-wheeled bigots who think because they get from A to B under their own power they're somehow only one step down from God almighty and they can do whatever the fk they want and screw anyone who isn't on a bike.

The irresponsible idiots I encountered today were a danger to themselves and every other road user. But if one of them should have been hurt by a motorist guess who would have got the blame? Guess who's insurance would have been paying out?

I've got an idea.
Seeing as my car is 4.6L and drinks a bit, I'm clearly paying more than the majority of motorists on the road.
Therefore following your logic, I want ever other car use who's economy is better than mine to pull over when the see me coming.
As clearly I have more rights than them

job done!

likewise...

of course, like all sterotypes i suspect rather fewer of them exist than you presume. I don't know any and i know a lot more cyclists than you i suspesct.

tbh, most people who act like that are probably just actually scared of being run over and react badly...

Regretably, I encounter cyclists like this on a daily basis. But in the interest of balance, I also encounter motorists who should have their arms removed to stop them ever driving again. But as we all know, two wrongs don't make a right - an when bad cyclists and bad motorists come together it's going to be a messy result, but the cyclist will inevitably come of worst. And that is why I struggle to understand why I see them behaving like they do.

i quite agree. this is of course why i don't behave like that. I do think that some people who don't both drive and ride fail to understand why another road user is riding/driving in the manner which they do. looking at it from both sides is an important perspective. for instance i ride about 1 metre from the kerb, making sure it is clear when there is and isn't room to overtake. some drivers interpret that as hogging the road where in fact it is absolutely the right technique to stay alive on a bike. if you ride in the gutter people just presume there is room to overtake regardless of whether there is or not and you get rear ended when they discover they were wrong.

I wouldn't expect King Herald to be able to comment. I gave him the benefit of the doubt at first, but he is clearly not the brightest spark. Hopefully he'll stop posting now to save some face.

Bit harsh , but as a driver of a car which he doesn't have to pay VED on ( Morris 8) probably not arguing from a position of strength
Apologies. It's not King Herald specifically, it's anyone who peddles the blinkered, ill-thought through and frankly nonsense argument about 'car tax' payers and 'free-loader' cyclists really.

It is rather, as I sold the car six months ago, though I do pay full road tax on two others, and have one on SORN.

Sorry, full VED, which is nothing to do with roads, or driving on them, but simply a tax that we pay on our vehicles to use the roads. Unlike these tttish CM retards who find it amusing to clog roads with their chav like antics. Bit, I concede the point, they have more right to the roads than motorists do, seeing as the vast majority of PHers seem to feel that way.

So, cyclists have as much right to use the roads as car drivers, because they pay council tax, as many learned PHers have explained time and again, but car drivers pay VED AND council tax. What am I missing here, in my obvious ignorance???? What, exactly, DO we get for our VED????

That is a very good point.

The answer is fvck all.

It has as much to do with the roads as VAT.

It's just another way the government can get more tax out of us without raising income tax (which it is going to do as well).

Why do more expensive cars ie 4x4, sports cars and exec cars tend to attract more VED than an 8 year old Vectra?

The Vectra is dirtier produces more harmful CO2 (of you believe in that kind of stuff) than a modern car and is generally less good for the environment.

Simple answer is if you told the Vectra driver his VED was going to be £450 he would just go untaxed.

VED is simply a cynical way of the government taxing those who can afford and are likely to cough up and it and has nothing to do with roads at all.

sorry of that was a bit off topic smile
Wherever the money goes, it is what we HAVE to pay to use the roads. We motorists also pay insurance and MOT to be allowed to drive on those roads, and again, the cyclists pay nothing, so I stand by my point, motorists have more rights to use the roads than cyclists do, and we PAY for that right.
