Dad was a full time Petrolhead.

I've posted these before on a similar thread, but make no apologies for doing it again.

TR4.

Mk1 Granada 3.0.

Volvo.

Rare bird this one. TVR Tuscan V6. Dad bought it new and had to go to the factory to finish it off himself to avoid Purchase Tax.

Elan FHC.

Austin Healey 3000.

E Type 3.8 FHC.

Vauxhall Ventora.

A very small Pat H.

A slightly less small Pat H infront of a Zodiac. Or is it a Consul?

Capri 3.0 Ghia.

Lotus Eclat. This was 1977 and The Spy Who Loved me was in the cinemas. It may not have been an Esprit, but for an eight year old lad, a white Eclat was the next best thing.

I certainly had the coolest Dad of all my schoolmates that year.

And here is the great man himself, infront of his Corsair GT.

I hope his photos bring you a few moments pleasure.

Paddy Heald 1936-2001.

Cheers, Dad.

He had all sorts of stuff when I was growing up... mainly Ford or BMW.

Best car he ever bought? A Sierra that he still has now. smile

And a quick glance at your profile shows it left a lasting impression. Bet he'd be proud of you.

Dad had (from when I was sentient) had mainly quick Fords

Some kind of Hillman Avenger thing
Capri mk2 2.0
Capri mk3 2.0S
Granada 2.8
Granada 2.8i
Capri 2.8i
Sierra XR4i
Sierra XR4x4

The rest of the Fords were company cars from Ford Motorsport:
2 x RS200s
2 x Sierra Sapphire Cosworth 4x4
1 x Scorpio 24V (I think at this point in list but I'm a bit hazy)
2 x Escort Cosworth
1 x Mondeo V6

Then back to owning his own
2 x BMW 328i
2 x Jag X-Type 3.0
Currently a BMW 330D (soon to be swapped for a 123D), and bizarrely my old Puma!

Meanwhile he kitted my Mum out with:
Fiesta mk1 1300S
Escort XR3
Escort XR3i
Escort RS Turbo
2 x Escort RS2000 (first stolen and replaced with second)

Pat H, lovely cars. Do you mind me asking if the cherished plates were kept in the family? Especially that on the E-Type.

They weren't "cherised plates" in those days, just another number plate - same as everyone elses...

I had WHO 500 on my MGA, and was offered £25 for it by a certain band member - more than the car was worth!

A man with impeccable taste...I'm not surprised alot of the lads at school were a tad green with envy at the time. Just brilliant. I love my dad but how awesome would it have been if he had an interest in cars like yours.

Great reading through all these post it brought back some great memories of some of the old bangers my dad had, Heres a list of the ones i can remember
MK1 escort van
sky blue mk1 escort pop
Citreon Ami
Moris traveler
MK 4 Cortina
MK2 Escort
Avenger
I think he was pleased when i became a mechanic lol after changing many a engine and decoked cylinder heads for him. Then when i learnt to drive i was alwayschanging cars wich were old bangers too but lots of fun. My list goes as follows. Mini 850 then a Mk1 escort mexico look alike wich was a 1750cc with 1300 runing gear.MK 3 4 and 5 cortina. Toyota cresida wich was like a rolls royce to me. Siera MK1 2ltr , Ford Arion gear , Granada 2.8 gia, Sieara mk31800,Ford Capri 2lt lazer my favourite. Then i had to be sensible and bought a Vectra 2ltr sri wich i found boring afer a while.

Yes, fair comment. Perhaps I should have just said "numbers".

Inspired by Garlick's recent topic "classic or hopeless" and a book I own called my dad had one of those...
Typical, i made a thread just like this just last week, but only got a few replies. >HERE<
You come along and get 7 pages worth of replies. You must have a certain internet charm that i'm lacking hehe

Ah well, i might as well join the more popular thread and re-post my pics.

They are in no particular order.

The BMW 2002 (not a real turbo though)

3.0s Capri

Droop Snoot Firenza

Don't think its his mk2 Escort, but it is his mk1 Granada.

Mini and his first 911.

Another Mini & Mk1 Escort (ignore the Jaguar badge on the bonnet laugh )

Mk2 Cavalier

X-Pack Mk2 Escort

The Mk1 Granada again. I love the sun strip hehe

Finally, and opel Ascona b?

Now for some of his more recent cars...

Actyally you guys got me hunting through a few boxes to see if i had any pictures of the old motors. Found these two

Note the very suitable tires on the porker especially given whats written on the back ... "Grenoble to Geneva, January 1975" nuts

Edit to add, i am hoping that is a cine camera he has over his shoulder and not a "manbag", but given that this is the height of the '70's and he even has aftermarket woolfraces fitted, highly likely paperbag

As Crossle says, in those days there was nothing special about the plates and they just came and went with the cars.

JEK 11 was sold with the E-Type, which fetched £900....

There was also MTR 2 on a Lotus Six, which went with the car.

The only one which has stayed in the family was 3333 JH, which just happened to have Mum's initials.

It was joined in the early 1970s by 3333 PJ which carries my first two initials. I think Dad paid £200 for the Volkswagen that it came with and just transferred the number before selling the VW on.
