I thought Harry and NickCC were in the top handful of cars with their 430/440hp cerbs .. was Nelly's car really faster ?? As you say with the hp difference that doesnt make sense.
At last year's FT Nelly was quicker than HarryW. In fact I think I'm right in saying the only TVR's quicker than Nelly were modified e.g Brummie's Cerb. Bearing in mind it was over 3/4 mile, would the 3.73 diff really make much of a difference if you're really giving away that sort of power ?. To be fair, my T350 beat every Cerb it raced against and I reckon it would give Nelly's car a run for its money and I only have 338bhp ! how does that work when I was quicker or as quick as Cerbs in the 400+bhp club - I think the answer is it dosen't make sense and something fishy is going on with these dyno numbers. If my car and Nelly's are really putting out 338bhp and 350ish respectively then I'm a monkey's uncle (now where did I put that banana)

. For reference Nick did 25.55s & 160.69mph, which given I was putting out around 435hp last year is about right. My understanding was Nelly was not far short of 390hp last year either so I subscribe to the monkeys uncle theory too.At last year's FT Nelly was quicker than HarryW. No mine was the fastest there, not including Brummie ofcourse.
There are so many variables, most importantly the launch, get that right and your on for a good time.
Incidently I also beat the GT2 and GT3's so you can beat the electronics, all they do is offer consistancy.
We all know the timing was a bit off this year, maybe that's what happened last time.
If the event runs again I would contact Mike Broadbent from Race logic. Get him down there with some vbox's then you'll have something to check the times against.
Can I ask you more experienced chaps a few question?
Do you weigh the cars to get a shoot out power to weight ratio?
So would be a bit tubby be a disadvantage in these shoot outs?
Another serious question.
Cerbera has a longer wheel base?
Does this put it at a disadvantage in standing starts due to the reduced weight transfer??
Last serious question (from an observation in my own Cerbera).
Do you launch a Cerbera in 2nd gear at the shoot outs?

I completely agree - the launch is where the race is won or lost at these type of events....If the event runs again I would contact Mike Broadbent from Race logic. Get him down there with some vbox's then you'll have something to check the times against.
How about a performance testing day somewhere with the aforementioned Vbox, in the same vein as magazine performance tests?
Not just standing start stuff but in-gear times as well - that would be a far fairer measure of absolute performance as the launch would be taken out of the equation and would allow much more meaningful comparisons.
Now, how to organise such an event...

...or shall we just all get together at 3am on the M25 with a stopwatch...

Just done a quick calculation based on drag racing Trap speed and power to weight, which is based on a cubed law and assumes cars weigh the same.
Using Nelly and my results from last year and taking my 435hp as a given
[trap speed car 1/trap speed car 2]cubed = power ratio advantage of car 1
[160.98/155.07]3 = 1.12 ~ 435/1.12 = 388hp for Nelly seems like a rough idea of what's happening.
Probaly billix but I was surprised it worked out, sort of

What was our highest result of the day ?
Nelly was the daddy in the power stakes and Del (as usual) was all torque !.
I think

Theres some good points there.I would have thought that the cerbs were disadvantaged by their power/weight ratio as they must be a significant amount heavier than the T350 and even a Tuscan?Do you weigh the cars to get a shoot out power to weight ratio?

That is interesting, as I thought the AJP was a lot lighter than the RV8?Which sort of balances out the roof, extra seats and length?
Or is that why they built the light weight Red Rose?

I think i need another sticker

I went back to TDI today having fitted a rising rate fuel reg to my SC400, (as advised by SC Power) to hopefully overcome the lean fuelling problems I had on the charity day.
Having increased the fuel pressure a little I am now much happier with my figures and most importantly the fuelling is nice and safe. It runs a little rich at the bottom end now hence the lowish torque at around 2500 revs, i hope to resolve this with bespoke mapping for my MC1 cam
And as everyone is kissing and telling.... and i'm now chuffed with my figures
I think it's only right I should share as well.
