...and what exactly do modern Mercedes and MacLarens have to do with Brooklands?
Ownership of a sizeable chunk of the site.Edited by The Wiz on Thursday 7th June 14:00
This is Weybridge we are talking about here. once of the most expensive places to buy property in the UK.
Will you allow me to address a few misapprehensions?
Brooklands was a pre-war race track, and we are trying to recreate the pre-war ambience of the place for the Centenary Festival. We have over 300 vehicles which raced or otherwise starred at Brooklands turning up and peforming over the two days, and we have hundreds more pre-war cars booked (and we will still welcome more) for the spectators car park. We are running live track action on several pieces of the original track and on the Mercedes-Benz circuits with the genuine Brooklands vehicles and some other relevant content.
The amount of free space left after that does not allow parking for thousands of post-war cars, which is why we are operating a park and ride scheme, using a large fleet of buses. The parking is free, the parking venue is easy to reach just off J10 of the M25, and the shuttle service will be quick and comfortable. We are sure that everybody interested in the spectacle of Brooklands as it was will appreciate what we are trying to do, and our desire on this one special occasion not to have modern cars, no matter how delightful they may be in their own right, cropping up in our customers' photos of the occasion. (We run dozens of other events during the year at which we welcome classic vehicles of all sorts of different make and model, and are happy to talk to people wanting to arrange special vists with their clubs. I have not been able to trace the Riley enquiry in any of our e:mail records, and apologise if we have in some way missed it.)
One thing I must emphasise is that THERE WILL BE VERY STRICT PARKING RESTRICTIONS ON ALL THE ROADS THROUGHOUT THE BROOKLANDS ESTATE FOR THE FESTIVAL WEEKEND. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW THE ADVICE OF YOUR CORRESPONDENT WHO SUGGESTED PARKING IN TESCO TO COME AND WATCH. THE SUPERSTORE CAR PARKS WILL BE RIGOROUSLY PATROLLED TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE RESERVED FOR GENUINE CUSTOMERS USING THOSE STORES ONLY. We are totally reliant on the goodwill of neighbours like Tesco and Marks & Spencer for the successful running of this event, (not least in being allowed to borrow their section of banking for the Centenary Cavalcade of veteran cars) and you will ruin it for everybody if you try to abuse that goodwill.
The Brooklands Centenary festival is a one-off, a brilliant opportunity to see the original cars and motorcycles (and bicycles and aeroplanes) performing on the original track in numbers not seen since 1939. With incredible levels of support from our co-organiser Mercedes-Benz World and our sponsors, we are delivering a unique spectacle. Please just come and enjoy it. Tickets are still available for both days! Many thanks,

Is there any clarification on what "encouraged" means with regards to the dress code?
I live within 30 mins of Weybridge and was considering coming along on Saturday, but the park & ride and the talk of "encouragement" (in quotation marks) is making me start to have second thoughts.
Yep, i am coming from Devon to see this event. i am driving myself there as i get very motion sick as a passenger in a car, train or bus so with the forced park and ride scheme which was not advertised upon purchase of the tickets means i wont be able to attend.I live within 30 mins of Weybridge and was considering coming along on Saturday, but the park & ride and the talk of "encouragement" (in quotation marks) is making me start to have second thoughts.
Very upset that i will be missing what looks to be a good weekend.
If anyone is interested in my 2 tickets then please email me. They will be at a reduced price.
We went today. Arrived at the park and ride at 10am. It took over half an hour to get to the site entrance but we hadn't missed anything as the timetable was a joke. We left at 4pm still waiting the 3pm air display - had to battle the park and ride before driving back to Somerset.
That apart (and the bottleneck near the McLaren F1 display) it was a super day - well done all concerned. It was so good to see some truly historic cars on the move - loved every second of that and the cars in the paddock. Also great the close access to cars, the Mercedes historic display was superb.
And that Lynx pilot! Just as my father in law was asking if helicopters could do rolls he did one, almost right above us - brilliant display, complete with loops - I've never seen a helicopter so that before and the back flips too!
Pity the cavalcade got 'lost' we saw it in the background going along the Railway Straight then it never reappeared.
I was pleased we went as it's unlikely we'll be around for the 200th anniversary.
