Thunder and Lightening
Discussion
Thought this was going to be a thread about that West Country treat, bread spread with clotted cream and treacle, known as Thunder and Lightning.
Then I read the comment about someone hearing a clap in Coventry, and thought there'll be some smart arse along in a second with a sexual innuendo, and like bloody buses three all came at once.
Persisting it down here too, road will be flooded going home.

haven't seen no lightening around here in St Neots yet. there was quite a few big rumbles of thunder yesterday and some pretty heavy downpours, but today its been warm and sunny mainly!
i did hear a few very distant rumbles of thunder earlier though.

No storm here yet but the lights keep dimming. Maybe I should switch everything off.

I have that as my homepage during the stormier parts of the year. I love thunderstorms. One of my dream jobs would be to work as a thunderstorm expert. Would probably have to go to America though as I doubt there's sufficient demand for such a thing here... yet! Roll-on climate change and all the promised storms!!Holy thread resurrection Batman!
Here in Southwell, Notts, there has been flooding down my street. My neighbours have had damage to their ground floor carpets and floors. My garage has been flooded, but nothing more. (Good job there was nothing valuable low down at the front, but rather, high up at the back of ther garage!)

Sorry to all but I'm going to have a whinge here.
OK so it has rained a bit in the Midlands. If you look at the map on this bbc news article I've been under that band of green and blue across the Midlands for two days.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6755571.stm
Yes it's rained a bit, and at times it's gone as black as a coal mine and the heavens have opened. Yesterday it was thrapping so hard that 20 mph was fast enough frankly.
But.... the downpour lasted all of 5 minutes then it went back to normal rain, not especially heavy, at times it was actually fine with bits of blue sky. Same today.
Now this is near the area where the local news hounds are nearly creaming their jeans over the travel chaos, the people trapped in their factory overnight, the fire brigade unable to cope and calling in reserves from other counties, Brigade chief on radio saying don't call us we'll call you, I'm sure you all get the picture.
So the rain was hard at times and its rained on AND off for a couple of days, but I've seen rain like this since I was a lad.
Why all the problems? Personally I think that the people responsible for the drains, (e.g. environment agency? water companies? councils? highways depts?) need to be asked some bloody hard questions about what the hell they are doing with our money!
Over and out.

I'm in Lincoln and TBH it has only just stopped raining for a significant time after 3 solid days of rain and I mean rain that hits the ground and bounces back up about 2 feet in the air. My area in so bad as I'm top of a hill but at the bottom of he hill its rather wet. OK so it has rained a bit in the Midlands. If you look at the map on this bbc news article I've been under that band of green and blue across the Midlands for two days.

Drains are built to deal with average amounts of rain not 3 months in 3 days.
