Your crazy then.
My friend (E46 M3) and I (stock 335d). Side by side on an Autobahn, 40mpg-160mph. The gap remains constant.
After a re-map its game over for the M3
Arrrrghhhhh. My friend (E46 M3) and I (stock 335d). Side by side on an Autobahn, 40mpg-160mph. The gap remains constant.

Please lookup "you're" and "your", followed by "there", "their" and "they're".
Thanks.
PS, what is the 0-100 time of the stock 335d? Slower than the M3 - ergo it is not as fast in a straight line.
PPS. 335i is faster anyway.
From a standing start the 335i is quicker tho.
People cant stand the thought of a diesel being fast these days can they.

Standing start it gets a jump. especially the manual.
Rolling start the acceleration is similar.
Similar meaning slower, because if it was faster you wouldn;t used similar ?Rolling start the acceleration is similar.
So, its slower from a standing start and also slower on a rolling start.
How exactly is it faster then ?
Out of interest, what is the tyre wear like given all the torque going through the rear wheels ?

I also doubt they were doing 40mpg @ 160mph... and if you were both doing 160mph on the autobahn, does it surprise you that the gap stayed constant My friend (E46 M3) and I (stock 335d). Side by side on an Autobahn, 40mpg-160mph. The gap remains constant.

i meant rolling 40mph-160mph nothing to do with fuel consumption sorry.
What it is from a standing start the 335d has short first gear is is not as quick standing start.
from a rolling start say 70mph, a 335i/335d/E46 M3 accelerate the same. This is what i have found. There will always be non believers. Most M3 boys wont have it that the 335i is as quick as them let alone the 335d. But its life and cars evolve and become faster, whether it be a diesel or petrol.

I agree with you that the 335d is a bloody quick car but it doesn't have M3 performance....
I sat on the rear of an S5 the other night for the lenght of my trip down the M6 and he was going some! - But it is still a much quicker car than a 320d!
When using an M5(E60) I had an 330i give me a run for its money, I couldn't be arsed so I'm sure he posted somewhere that a 330i is faster than an M5 and good luck to him!!
The biggest smile per miles BMW is the 135i Coupe, Now that is Brilliant

you doughnut, im not talking of random cars. im talking friends cars. I KNOW THEY were flat out etc.
thanks.
No worries...thanks.
I drive all types/versions/models of BMW's everyday and I know the point you are trying to make...
But it isn't true, may feel it at times in 'real world driving' but they are not!
Although I think against an E46 M3 it would be marginal.
Why are diesel owners always on a crusade to convince us that their cars are great? We know the BMW diesels are brilliant but it wears a bit thin after a while.
Had a little arguement with a mate today infact, who swore blind the 330i (231bhp) was nowhere near as good as his 330d (184bhp) performance wise.

The mid range torque is why. Gives a greater feeling of acceleration.Had a little arguement with a mate today infact, who swore blind the 330i (231bhp) was nowhere near as good as his 330d (184bhp) performance wise.

I think you'd be surprised by the results though, bhp is one thing, torque is anotherHad a little arguement with a mate today infact, who swore blind the 330i (231bhp) was nowhere near as good as his 330d (184bhp) performance wise.
