The oil on the outside was an earlier sump failure :-( After that we had an alternator go and a front tie bar bush collapse. The oil smoke from the engine was, we think, from a failed ring, as from about 6AM the car wouldn't rev (lack of oil pressure impacts the VTEC system). By the end, it wouldn't rev over 6k, but we made it - We were leading our class after the first 3 hours :-(

Thanks for the pic, and it's me driving :-) (Yellow lid)

Spoke to one of the drivers after the car "appeared" in the Abbey gravel trap sometime on Saturday night/Sunday morning.

This was shortly before I cruised past them in the Jemco 22 Ginetta. OK - I got it wrong and nearly threw it off at Vale in front of them. redface It was still very slippery. OK?!?!

Seeing the plates, I look closely at the windscreen, and I see what looks like a tax disc..... Does this mean that the slow refuelling stops were due to this car leaving the circuit, driving up the A43 to Towcester, and buying some cheap unleaded??

The spirit of club motorsport lives on at ChimpTune!!

Well done guys!

I have some photos from Friday to upload, but with me being at the BTCC for the rest of the weekend, I currently have a bit of a backlog! I'll post a link when I get them done.

James,
Being part of the BPM Clio team I absolutely HATED your car with a vengence for 2 days, but now the dust has settled I totally LOVE it biggrin You guys have the total respect and admiration of our team, I'm sure you will win it next year (if we're not there laugh)

Martin.

What has happened to Lotus? Car 44 was bulletproof too. frown Not on. They should break, like they always used to...

Yes, that was a tax disc in the front of our car and that licence plate is real. This car was Richard's (the Chimp in Chimptune) wife's run about until we got hold of it. You have to love it don't you. It had been in a barn since 2005 when it was last taxed so seemed a perfect 24 hour project.

The car was a regular 111s, with a VVC engine doing 150/160 horses. The bits we changed were to put a cage in, beef up the cooling, beef up the brakes and harden up the suspension; we left the power alone and just put a new head gasket on it. It handled like a dream and although power was modest we wanted to keep reliability.

The only issues we had were electrics (new coil, throttle pot and relays during 3 different stops at 6am... bit of a shag) and an inadvertent setting off of the fire extinguisher (don't ask) at 4am; it took a while to find a replacement at that time. That lost us 1 and 3/4 hours. We then lost to you lucky lucky Clio boys by 24 seconds! That's motorsport I guess and we all had issues over a 24 hour period. Between the MG, you and us were all in the lead at some point so cannot say fairer than that for racing.

Richard, a handy pedaller of a car, did a 2.11 in the car when he used all the revs and all the curbs. Apparently some Aston had cut him up so he decided to teach them a lesson and passed him back on the outside a couple of corners later; love that! We settled back into our sustainable pace after that.

We will be back next year and we will teach the team which buttons to press and which not! I will also remember to go to sleep enough so that I do not start driving like a big girl's blouse half way through my final stint...

Top fun guys and well done Clio team.

James
