BMW auc warranty problem

Hi, I have a 2007 5 series bought from BMW last year, it's still under their auc warranty. The powered boot lid has failed, the strut has come away from the main body of the car. A pretty minor repair I thought, as the mechanism still works fine. The dealer is. Telling me that it is not covered by warranty, as it's caused by corrosion which is not covered. Cost of repair - £1500!
Needless to say I'm very disappointed. The car is still with. Them, no further action taken yet. Does anyone have any advise or experience of this?

I would kick off, and ask if they think it's acceptable that a 8 year old sopposed '' prestige marque '' which you pay top wack for because its well made etc etc should be corroding in the first place!! . Isn't the anti corrosion warranty 10 years ?.

Ask them to show you the section in the policy wording that leads them or the assessor to think it's excluded. Ask them to formally detail the thought process in writing. Contact the ombudsman as it is an insurance product. Try another dealer. Just a few avenues to explore. Best of luck. Ah the car trade, a really ethical industry, as always.
I shall be watching this subject as I'm taking my 2011 e89 zed 4 back to the dealership in guildford where I bought it used 11 months ago as the electrics on the dash are only working intermittently. I'm hoping they won't wriggle over what is .
My temptation is to extend their warranty but I will see how they respond to this problem, before the approved used car warranty expires on July 29.

Not sure if this will help but I tried getting the boot struts on my old 2007 E87 123d replaced under warranty. They hadn't failed but had corroded around the brackets where they attached to the underside of the hatch. I was concerned it would spread to the actual car.
Warranty was refused as the anti corrosion only applies to external parts of the car...or so I was told. It was a minor thing so I didn't push it.
I don't know the mechanics of the powered struts but sounds similar to what you're saying - though to be honest I would have thought an outright failure of the struts (regardless of root cause unless you hit them with a hammer) would be a warranty job.

I just called customer service, on the advice of the dealer, but they said it was a waste of time, they won't overrule the dealers opinion. Also the 12 yr anti corrosion only covers external bodywork. So that's the end of the line for me via the dealer, not really sure if I can do anything more except collect the car.

Thats the reality of an AUC car from BMW in my experience. When you are buying the car, "the AUC covers everything sir". As soon as you come to use the warranty for some defect it covers nothing.
I certainly feel the AUC is worthless now!
Go for a private sale next time, save the couple grand premium that the garage charges you and use that to pay for the inevitable repairs the car will need.

I ran an e46 M3 for a few years, bought as an AUC and I kept the warranty going for the four years I had it. Worked out well for me, I had an alternator, M Differential, rear bushes, rearview mirror, and a few coil springs all replaced under warranty. The wing mirror started to bubble up with rust when the car was 6 yrs old and they wouldnt cover this as it was 'trim'. They said the corrosion guarantee only applied to the main body panels.
To the 335D owner, ask BMW if the turbos are covered, I think they are and they will definitely go at some point!

Excuse the interruption, but for you folks who continued with a BMW warranty after the AUC warranty expired, did you get the option to have 0 excess?? My AUC is expiring soon and when I play with quotes on the website, all the options are with 100£ excess, which is a lot as warranty is 80ish p/month.

I renewed mine 3 months ago and I could have had a £0 excess - I took a £100 as it made more sense but zero was available.D
I had a bit of a headache with the AUC warranty on my GFs Z4 (2008). She paid over the odds for that particular car as it still had the AUC warranty and the roof motor is a common expensive failure. Had an insp2 at a local specialist in April and the roof failed to raise when she dropped it off, they also found a cracked rear spring, small oil leak and the spare key remote wasn't working.
I booked it in at the local dealer who approved the spring, oil leak and key (despite the lady on the service saying they probably weren't covered) but said the roof motor was not covered as it was due to water ingress. After a few calls, I took it up with warranty dept at head office who were still refusing the claim. I then asked them to communicate by email so everything was in writing should I need to refer to it in the future, implying that I would be taking it further. The following day it was approved and then repaired. I was a little annoyed at having to escalate the issue to get it approved but felt I was in the right and the motor should be covered - I'd probably have accepted the spring and possibly oil leak being refused as wear and tear.
I would certainly have the AUC warranty on a car with known common faults that require expensive dealer fixes. Having said that most things can be done by independents for a lot less than the BMW quoted prices.
