Latest Auto Zeitung Summer Tyre Test - interesting result
Discussion
I've just spent a few hours picking through, and doing my best to translate the recently published Auto Zeitung Summer tyre test.
There's a write up of the test on my site but to spare you from all the waffle here is the final result.
Total result including subjective scores:
1. Pirelli P Zero
2. Continental Sport Contact 3
3. Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT
4. Hankook Ventus V12 Evo
5. Bridgestone Potenza RE 050 A
6. Michelin Pilot Sport 2
7. Uniroyal Rainsport 2
8. Nokian ZG2
9. Goodyear Eagle F1 A
10. Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta
11. BF Goodrich G-Force Profiler
12. Firestone firehawk S790
13. Fulda Carat Excelero
14. Kumho Ecsta
15. Bravuris Barum
16. Toyo T1R
Measured performance scores:
1. Pirelli P Zero [257]
2. Hankook Ventus V12 Evo [238]
3. Goodyear Eagle F1 A [237]
3. Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta [237]
3. Bridgestone Potenza RE 050 A [237]
6. Michelin Pilot Sport 2 [232]
7. Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT [231]
8. Uniroyal Rainsport 2 [226]
Looking at the translation, it seems the tyres we'd all expect to do well (Eagle F1, Ultrac Sessanta) have been penalised for offering a somewhat numb driving experience and being difficult on the limit.
It's nice to see Pirelli finally offering something decent in the replacement segment. Didn't the Toyo T1R do well...

Did they test those half price Falkens all the 'I'm not being cheap but' guys keep waxing lyrical about or are they STILL an unknown quantity? Wish somebody would hurry up and include them in a decent test.
Well, those falkens used to be the Toyo T1R, and are often compared like for like. Make of that what you will!B19GRR said:
Interesting that you have to go down to number 7 before you find a tyre that has a decent rating from the user reviews on your site.
Cheers,
Rob
I was about to say the same - I had considered the PZeros for my next tyres until I read the distinctly lukewarm reviews.Cheers,
Rob
However, a tyre fitter told me only this week that the latest Wanli tyres were being made with identical tread patterns to one of the PZero range. Apparently the Chinese manufacturers buy up old moulds from the big names.
Is it possible that Pirelli have changed the design of whichever PZero was used n this test?
