As requested, I am opening a new thread to discuss the development of a bespoke carbon fibre case for the Aston Martin's volvo fob.
This is a spin-off of the previous case developped for the Emotional Control Unit, or ECU ( link)

I have created CAD models and I am waiting for the initial quotations for the tools and parts.

For the buttons I will use carbon with weaved colours to distinguish them : carbon with blue or red stitching. And texalium as well as for the ECUs.
(see last picture)

Please find pictures of the proposed design below. Please PM me if you are interested.

Also, let me have your feedback as I can change the design before we start making any moulds.

Looks great, sign me up for one.

Will you be doing the back of the fob with carbon fibre and ditching the leather?

Cheers

As said in other thread, I'm significantly
more keen if it's a re-shell of the Volvo fob, rather than a wrapper round it.

It it's a wrapper, would depend on cost and thickness.

Main problem with the Volvo fob is that it's huge frown

I agree with the size issue. Such a large clunky piece of kit. A new slimmer design would be VERY appealling.
Or simply a re-shell.

+1. Sign me up however would prefer a smaller design or simple re-shell.

Also, would be happy for the buttons to remain as they are, rather than carbon replacements. If you re-shell the unit then this would work.

Still interested. A re-casing would be my preferred choice to limit bulk.

Sudden eureka moment this afternoon...

As I mentioned, I am not that keen on remoulding the volvo fob case as it will be a lot of work to get the button to hold correctly.

However, I took it down in pieces again and I just realised that the internals are actually exactly the same as.... The ECU !!!!!

So, for those who are interested, you can transfer the internals of your current volvo fob into the ECU CFRP case.
Only drawback is that you loose the fifth triangular button as the ECU has only the first 4 buttons. And there is no leather hook or key ring (but is not a problem on the ECU).
Major advantage is that you can keep it when you upgrade your car in the future :-)

So basically, for those who wish to have a carbon fibre case for their volvo fob, I can provide one straight away in the form of the ECU. See picture below (thanks to CarbonV12V).
I have 3 lefts and ready to go. If there is enough interest, meaning we can get 20 firm orders, then I can get a batch ordered again. The last time, it took about 3 months between me ordering them, manufacturing, preparing the internal parts and finally sending to everyone.

Cost is £199 for the 3 I have left and available immediately.
If we do another bulk order of 20, then I can drop it to £149 (25% off) due to the 3-month wait.

Just PM me if you are interested.
