Dear friends,

Many of you will know that today has been a big day for us. Lisa's wedding, gaining a new son-in-law etc.

You may also be aware that Simon was brave enough to ask Rob if could drive his new bride from the wedding venue to the reception in Rob's Aston Martin. Simon was 30 last week so we were able to get him insured.

I drove Simon's Alfa & we left soon after them.

We could not believe our eyes. 5 minutes up the road there was Purdey. Bride & groom very upset but OK. Police on scene. Damaged van. But our beloved Purdey - dear God - we really do not know what will become of her.

Bamford Rose were called in to rescue her (incident happened near Stow on the Wold - wouldn't be surprised if some gloating b*stard has already posted pictures somewhere on the Internet).

Rob, unsurprisingly, fell 'of the wagon' and now sleeping. I dread him waking up to the reality that we may have lost Purdey. We don't know yet how bad it is. You might say that we should keep this to ourselves but that was unlikely to be possible as we have a weekend planned with 35 of you in July.

I have held it together all day and we managed to have a good reception for Lisa & Simon but I would just like to know that our friends will be thinking of us and of Purdey.

Might just go & have a cry now!

Molly x

My God!
Gutted for you both, at least no injuries and the car is in good hands and can be brought back to full health.
A stiff drink sounds to be in order.

Totally gutted for you. I hope no one was hurt? Sad as it is, as long as bride and groom unhurt, then the car can be fixed. Still gutted for you though yes

Molly/Rob, this is bad news on an astronomical scale.....or so it seems at the moment. The reality is, no one was hurt, just imagine how life changing it would have been had the very worst happened, it simply doesn't bear thinking about.

Your car can and will be fixed. It will emerge stronger, better and you'll enjoy it even more after a period of absence. The same would not have been said had you been staring down the barrel of an entirely different reason for a family gathering.

Get drunk, cry, look at some photos of the Welsh weekend, but never forget that it is just metal. It will never be as precious as life itself. Sermon complete.

Oh Molly. Can hardly believe that - just been downloading some pictures I took on JLC trip and was looking at yours too. Really sorry but, corny I know, main thing everyone ok. Hopefully BR can work some magic and if not hopefully Purdey II will be born. I don't blame Rob for having a swift half, think I'm going to have one for you too. Best wishes Andrew & Mhairi.

Oh no. So sorry guys frown

Maybe scant consolation right now, but cars are fixable and, if needed, replaceable. People less-so.

Thank your lucky stars you are discerning folk who drive a modern and safe vehicle. If Lisa and Simon were in a classic with no crash protection, airbags, ABS etc it could have been so much worse.

Purdey will rise again!

Best wishes from Adam & Romi.

Oh Molly so sorry to hear that. Main thing is no-one hurt. It doesn't help but cars can be mended or replaced. My thoughts are with you both x

Thanks guys, knew you would be there for us.

Can't say what the police/insurance assessment will be but looks pretty straightforward: very, very wet road, a lot of power, and cold tyres.

One things for sure - no family gathering will ever be complete without this tale!

Rob & I have both been through loads of crap before (both widowed before we got together) so very aware of how important it is to pick ourselves up and get on with making the most of our lives. All we cared about at the scene was that Lisa & Simon were ok.

Whoever said have another drink - too much already (Rob asleep now & best thing for him)!

So sorry to hear this Molly. What are the chances! I can only echo what others are saying here - cars can be fixed / replaced whereas people cannot. Wishing you both the best.

yikes

Smashed up Purdey - only one answer - kill him!!!! wink

Only joking. Hope everyone OK. No wonder Rob fell off the wagon, I feel like falling off mine in sympathy.

Edited to add - what the fk did Rob say in his father of the bride speech?

That is sad news but as others have said, at least everybody escaped unharmed. At he end of the day Purdey can be repaired or replaced.

Sorry to hear this guys, it's such a shame that things like this happen sometimes, but as long as everyone is unhurt, that's all that matters.

Oh Bugger!
Look on the bright side
Everyone is OK
It's insured
You can get BR to do the repairs (and add a few more "enhancements" wink )
Purdey's rebirth will be immense
The wedding went off OK? (other than Purdey's demise)

From what I know of you two I know you will both come through this in a better place

Molly & Rob

I was shocked to read this. I know from talking to you both how much a part Purdey has played in your lives and your ever expanding circle of friends.

As other have said, Purdey is metal and can be fixed or replaced but a life never can be and there is consolation in the fact that there were no serious injuries.

You'll bounce back from this and Purdey will be better than ever. You know we are all here for you and so pleased that your family is safe.
