I have just noticed that the passenger footwell is shorter than the drivers side and that trying to fit in the passenger seat for a tall person is quite hard in the vantage - unless it's just a problem with the seat ?

Nope, you are correct.

There's a fuse box and other gubbins in there IIRC.
