GT3 corrosion treatment
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm having the underside of my Mk1 GT3 treated for corrosion (they're not all that protected from the factory) and wanted to share how it's going:

Worth having a peek under your own just in case, I reckon. Feels good to be nipping it in the bud rather than regretting it later!

Gidday Ade,
Yes on both counts - my car and it was from Marcus (and tracydeedance on here).
I posted a link a while ago to a Mk2 GT3 in New Zealand (where I'm from, and where we don't salt the roads) - it was like yours, just perfect underneath. Mine should be closer to that soon, which'll be great.
What's been most interesting was how much of the corrosion wasn't visible - it's been one of those jobs where each time I talk to Ninemeister they've found more that should be sorted before they make it look like a car again. I hope yours is as good in the nooks and crannies as it sounds on the visible bits!
I'm so in love with the car there was no way I was ever going to skimp on it, but it's definitely not proving the cheap route to GT3-dom
It's also about as fast a car as I'd like, and there's bugger all I lust after, so I'm planning on having it a good while. I'll enjoy the next few years all the more knowing what it looks like so stripped out!

Mine was inspected in the last three months as part of the servicing. Still showing the original factory wax film (what is this stuff called?). It doesn't see winter use and was very clean underneath when I bought it suggesting little or no exposure to salt.
Thanks for the heads up though because it makes me want to take a closer look just to be sure nothing is starting.

Interesting that the ninemeister chap said your car only had the electrocoat primer on the floorpan - watch the Megafactories program and they follow a car through the paintshop. I don't recall them putting any colour coat on the floor of the red example, either the robotised colour primer or the hand applied finish coat? In one shot the car is going into the oven with the red primer coat on and you can still see the grey electrocoat underneath and near the wheel arches.
