I'll start with this, and its not like hexagon to ever try & push the boundaries of prices. Ladies & gentlemen, I give you the forty grand e46 M3

Just the same as the S4 or RS4 that had minimal miles on the clock which was advertised at £40k+.
These cars are only worth it if you've got buckets of cash and never want to drive them. Still far too expensive.

42 grand? Why would you when there's this other one on eBay for only THIRTY-FIVE grand?!

Slightly off topic.

Was at the classic car show last weekend and there was a Ford stand with an absolutely immacutalte Escort Cosworth. I'm talking spotless everywhere here and upon speaking to the owner he said he'd bought it for £30k 3 years ago and stripped it down, cleaned it and put it back together again.

Gorgeous car but when asked how it drove his reply was, "I don't know I've never driven it".

I mean seriously, buying a car with a view to never drive it is sad beyond all reason. I asked if he'd had any offers and he said he'd had a bloke offer £40k then the next day turned up with a cheque for £50k which he turned down.

I didn't really care by that point, he'd bought a piece of history and has never driven it, he claimed he hadn't bought it for financial gain (as he'd turned down £20k profit in 3 years) but couldn't state why he had it.

What a waste of a car.

Pretty much the same in this case. Why buy a car like that and never drive it?

The E46 is someone chancing their arm massively, a low milage E90 is worth perhaps 25k so who in their right mind is going to pay that for an E46, 20k tops, to someone who wants an E46.

That M3 was for sale for £10k less than that for some time and then about £26k IIRC. Was for sale in N.I. No idea what it went for in the end, but appears that Hexagon snapped it up and have applied their "special" tax to it.

the thing I can't understand with them is their random pricing, the e46 m3 is plainly nuts, but they have a Z4M coupe for just under 20k. Same mileage as the one I sold last month & only four grand more which isn't bad considering the private sale to dealership spread.

Well either that or mine was a bargain confused

There seems to a be a trend to get something half decent and go daft with the price, fair enough but dont expect to sell it.

I can understand a premium for a mint, low mileage example but a decent E46 is 12k, just because someone didnt use it, doesnt mean you get back what is cost new, things move on and unless it is something massively special it isnt going to appreciate a great deal, who really is going to pay 40 grand for an inferior/older car just for the fact is hasnt been used.

I am sure I saw that car on set up day with the tyres wrapped in clingfilm so they did not get dirty!!

Was that the red one? It was in amazing shape underneath - the mirrors showed it was like a split new car.

I couldn't be arsed doing all that cleaning myself, but fair play to the guy.

When I had my Jags and I went to the enthusiasts days there was always this chap with an absolutely spotless XJC, he never let anyone near it and spent the whole day sitting with the car just in case someone dare breath on it, at the end of the day it was wheeled on carpet onto a trailer, whats the point? The best laugh I had was when it (XJC) was in the Autoglym concourse at the NEC classic car show, one of the judges inspecting it slammed (in the very very losest sense) the boot, I thought the man was going to have a heart attack.

I had a look at that, it was immaculate! Up on a bit of a ramp with mirrors underneath the car.

Amazing! I like to keep a clean car but I would feel like I was depriving it of its purpose.

Hexagon have form for this, IIRC they bought up loads of Z8's and held the pricing way high (doesn't seemed to have been in vain either)

They often have low mileage examples at silly money (I wonder if that is reflected in their trade in offers?)

Good luck to them if you can why not?
