997 Barbeque!!!
Discussion
So I put my car in the garage the other day. An hour later someone knocks on my door and says "Your garage is on fire". Sure enough I go outside and there is smoke pouring out of the garage. I'm running towards it and there is a small explosion and the main door gets blown partly off. All I can see is a very expensive Porsche bonfire!
Luckily the garage isn't connected to the house so the buildings damage isn't too bad. As you can see from the pics though, the car was a complete write-off. Strange thing is that no one - Porsche, the insurance company or the fire department - have any idea what caused it? Anyone heard of spontaneously combusting 997s? I had only used the car to pick up the nipper from school - about 20 minutes though slow traffic. It sat in the driveway and about an hour later I put it in the garage. Another hour later and it was on fire.
Very painful to see...

Gutted for you.
I assume this is covered under the warranty.
I hope Porsche take some responsibility as this and the damage to your garage as this does not look like it could have been caused by any fault of the owner.
Didn't something similar to this happen with a Ferrari 599 when they first came out?

Wow, really sorry to see this. Hope you get it sorted.
Similar 'friend of a friend' story:
This (friend of a friend) guy had done well for himself and just got his first Bentley (I dunno the model). And has it parked in the garage next to his other pride and joy - one of those Range Rover Sport jobbies.
Anyway, the Bentley went in for some work (service maybe) at the main dealer.
The night it was returned, it burst into flames in the garage, destroying itself and taking most of the range rover with it.
Bentley come out at the crack of dawn the next day in spooky nightrider-esque unmarked black lorry and take all that remains of the Bentley and the Range Rover away. Another team arrives and start cleaning up/redecorating the garage.
Then X* days later - the owner gets home and there's a brand new Bentley and a brand new Range Rover, both in their usual places.
Now that's customer service (and to be fair, the least they could do).
So such things do happen (assuming the story's not made up - I'll check snopes.com now) and how the supplier deals with it is the measure of them

- I dunno how mny days. 2 would sound impressive, but I suspect it was more like a week.
Thanks for the support guys - much appreciated. This happened a few weeks ago and the insurance has paid out. Not before the inevitable "So sir - why did you torch your car" questions of course. I bought the car from an indie without an official Porsche warranty (I know, I know...) and Porsche were not interested at all. All they said was they had never heard of it happening before. I actually knew the history of the car which was why I bought it - it was bought new by a friend of a friend and I know it was very well looked after.
Anyway, have a replacement C2S coming shortly - Atlas Grey & higher spec (with a Porsche warranty!) Happy days. Hope this one is a little more fire resistant...

It certainly looks as if the fire originated from the engine bay.
It is possible although a lot less likely than most people realise that it was a fuel leak, fuel tends to vaporise off even red hot metal in an instant unless completely poured over which is almost impossible to achieve in an engine bay. The most likely cause is a wiring fault causing a short turning in to a small fire then taking an oil or fuel line and accelerating the blaze.
Depending on the insurance/manufacturer situation (I suspect the car may well get lifted by Porsche pretty quickly and replaced) I would be getting an independent inspection done sharpish, regardless of the comments so far it shouldn't take long to track it down.
