The 996 turbo below has over the last month been priced at

POA a few times
£35,996 for a few days.
£38,996 for a week or so.

And now

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

Boom, can't sell it at £35,996, I know make it £47,996 instead.

Now I really couldn't buy a car of this dealer in the future at all, you don't see the respected dealers doing this, they might knock a few grand off a car that's been sat around a while, but this has been. Up and down like a wes drawers.

Imagine buying at one price to be told it was 12k cheaper three weeks ago at the same dealer..

It's a bizarre, but not uncommon, practice at the moment, for some dealers to increase the prices on stock that isn't selling confused

Must be some clever, reverse psychology, mind game that they teach at the 'Arfur Daly School of Car Trading' that somehow makes it more desirable - or, may be not rolleyes

Looks as if the Dealer has a 'If It isn't selling at the lower price it may as well sit unsold at a higher price' kinda attitude,The car may well be worth all of the cheaper price but the dealer feels miffed that he hasn't even opened the door and is now using reverse skylogic..

He can ask whatever price he wants. I am not sure its a credibility issue. No one is forced to buy these cars. Sure vote with your feet and don't buy it but really who cares what dealers do with their prices? If its overpriced it won't sell. The market will speak and price will fall. It should be £25k with that ghastly steering wheel smile

Lol regarding the steering wheel, i nearly rang up to buy it when it was 35996 even with the dodgy steering wheel as thats nothing Jack at Royal steering wheels couldn't sort out for 150 quid.

However when i went to call the price had jumped to 38996 and i couldn't be bothered to argue about the price change.

I read "low miles" so there I am thinking to myself, you whingers, it must be a sub-10k mile car, hard to put a price on a near new vehicle... then I read the "65000 miles" detail...

Well that makes mine low mileage too, must remember to tell everyone.

Pretty sure the white 3.2 carrera has had a few price changes recently. I am sure that was sub 40 last week and now looks to be mid 40s. These guys used to be called buchanan motors and have a fairly dubious history which google searches will confirm

If it had gone up for £36k at 911 Virgin it would have sold by now. It might even have gone for closer to £40k.

But an unknown dealer, along way from London who starts low and goes high is dreaming!

Do you think they have done anything to it in the last week to warrant upping the price?

thats the credibiliy point, if that had been 36k at 911 Virgin it would have been in my garage right now.

In fact ive just bought a 996 C4S from 911 Virgin.

Scotland is a long way to go if its no good as well.

Its a common sales tactic.

Car sales has changed. People search by price now and adding 10k to the price actually puts the car in front of a different type of buyer, who may have not seen it before. The ones who maybe searching with a minimum value of 40k?

Its not right or wrong. Alls fair in love and war. Nobody is forced to buy anything.

Its all a game. Play it well.

Nice reference to 'The Castle' there...

Maybe he was swamped by calls from prospective buyers...

Yes, i'd agree that's the tactic.

You have to remember these people are out to make money. I don't think it's anything to do with 'credibility', it's just the way it is. The worst mistake is believe you are mates with a sales person, followed up by believing loyalty is a two-way street.

I totally agree and understand about making money, and i have no issue with regards to how large a margin is, that's business.
The credibility bit is more down to the fact that they must think people are stupid, anyone who is looking through the classifieds regularly will see that the price is up and down like a yoyo. It's not just this car either, they are doing it with the other stock as well.

This one has been in the classifieds for months and months.....
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...
Everyday it gets bounced back to the top of the listings, but the price has been all over the place, from £50k to £75k.
It's clearly not selling.

I sold my last car by upping the price, for some reason it instantly stopped all the "whats the lowest you'll take" texts and a buyer was secured within 48 hours of the price hike.
