Has anyone else noticed that people around here seem to be afraid of having a contrary opinion? People ask things like, "What do we think of the X car?" or when the general opinion is that something is not good, they feel like they're being unique for choosing the other side. Is this an English thing or a PistonHeads thing? Who cares what PH as a group thinks about a particular bodykit, or body, or model, or whatever? Make up your own mind without guilt, fer christ's sake!

Of course not, but the majority of users are from the UK. (which I assume also includes Welsh, Scot, Irish (!), etc.)

I'm in the U.S. myself.

So the first 3 out of 4 replies were not from Englishmen.

There's a bit of a pack mentality on PH, most threads are 'OP-random story' a couple of tenuous posts that don't add much, then someone will take the piss and everyone else joins in.

Sometimes it can be naturally funny and turn into a bit of legendary thread, but most of the time it's people pretending it's funny and trying to hard; you can tell the latter as the thread is usually full of photos of cats and that bloke from star trek.

It's the make-up that makes PH what it is....just enjoy it!

I think the majority of people think for themseves. Take me for example, nothing in the world will persuade me to buy a cooking Audi, no matter how 'great' some say they are. I'd rather have the Skoda. I lack the middle management hair gell and mediocre suit to carry off the expectations of an S Line. HTH.

You don't need to bleat on here that you feel a tad insecure. At least have the courage of your convictions. Those who walk their own path in life tend to do so without the need to tell everyone 'look at me, i'm different'. HTH.

Must be a record.

5 posts before someone starts slagging a brand.

Then again, i suppose this is exactly what this thread is about.

It depends on the subject, I suppose. Mob mentality crops up in some respects, and not in others. Like everything in life, the majority fall down on one side rather than another.

See, even without the s4 part of your username, I knew you'd be an Audi driver wink

I don't actually think Russell was slagging off Audi per-se, but more a reflection on how he sees certain models, and how he'd prefer something else. Offer him and RS4 avant and he'd probably bite your arm off!

You post leads me to an observation that often amuses me, not just on PH but on motor-ralated forums in general. You can insult another fella 'till the cows come home, fire all manner of derogatory comments but the second you insult his car or the manufacturer of such, all hell breaks loose hehe

Very true, although im not bothered about the car hating, as i drive and own what i like (as we all do).

However i dont feel it necessary to slag off one brand over another.

It just gets boring after a while.
