Afternoon all,

I'm just looking for some general opinions on what my next car should be. I currently drive a 123d M Sport - lovely car, but starting to think it's time for a sneaky little upgrade wink

Options are, E92 330d M Sport or A5 3.0 TDi S Line, both are to be post 10 plate.

Your opinions on both would be greatly appreciated, i look forward to reading your responses.

Thanks.

I'd recommend you drive both.

When I was in a similar situation, driving both made it very clear that an Audi is just not for me because of the way they drive, yet your opinion may differ of course. The point I'm trying to make is: both are really good cars, get whatever suits you best smile

Personally I think it depends on what kind of car nut you are....

If you are a 'driver' in that you appreciate the minutae of how a car feels and handles, then BMW every single time.

If you love cars and how they look, but maybe dont think too much about dynamics, then maybe the audi.... The interior and exterior look great IMO.

BTW... do you REALLY need a diesel? BMW straight six can't be easily beaten wink

Ah OK, some mixed reviews, but generally as a drivers car the beemer seems to be the better drivers car, which doesn't surprise me as my 1 series handles like a gem.

I need diesel as i do quite a few miles with work and want performance to match a fairly good MPG return, hence why I have a 123d at the moment. I would love a 335d but I just think in the big picture running costs are going to be that little bit higher, I have also heard that V6 lump is thirstier than the straight 6??

I am hoping to get a manual, but am not put off about having an auto, wasn't aware the auto box is better in the A5. I also completely agree that MMI is better than the iDrive system.

I don't know why but there is something about having a quattro rather than RWD this time, however if I get a quattro I can't use a snow day as an excuse for not being able to get into work!!!

I had a similar dilemma last year and ended up in a 635d Sport although you say that it must be a 10 plate onwards so not sure if one will fit your budget. I'd be looking at an E350CDI Sport Coupe aswell.

Just taken delivery of a new E92 330D M-Sport and completed my first 250 mile round trip in it. As a motorway cruiser with a reasonable amount of grunt it is fantastic. Sounds a bit agricultural on start up and idle but once moving it is smooth and quite. I also got a genuine 43mpg from it. I'm pretty certain that it will loosen up some over the ext 10k miles or so, but overall I am very impressed. (This is coming from a 285bhp 2.0 TSi Petrol).

When I took the 123d in for a service, BMW gave me a new 1 series with the auto box, I was well impressed with it - hence why I am starting to sway to auto's, also i am aware that the old BMW auto box will not be as smooth as the current one. Are they really that bad the old auto boxes? I see you get paddle shifts with the auto in M Sport format, is the response of the auto box not very good? Also in the A5 is that a DSG box? as that could sway it!!

Pablo68, is that a manual you got 43mpg return from? and yes it will loosen up over time, but will take a long time as I picked my 123d with 15k on the clock, now done 70k and still feels tight as a drum!!
