Some kind lady at work managed to rip my front number plate off when loading some shopping into her boot. A bag got caught on it.

I've called the dealership I got the car off. As after this happened I've found out when they changed it over to plates with their name and number on they could get the old screws out so just cut them off. Meaning they just screwed the new plate into the plastic of the bumper. Which obviously wasn't very secure if a small force was enough to rip it off.

Am I ok to drive for the couple of days before I get the Car back to them for them to fix it? I can't get it sit in the front windscreen without part of the plate covering up the airbag in the passenger side. And infront of the driver side it won't secure.

Am I best to just bodge it back onto the front somehow before the garage can refit it? I'm also going back there as the wheel refurbishment they had done is flaking and falling off after 6 months. I don't really want to be digging two new holes to refit it frown

Thanks.

I use a hot glue gun or sticky pads to hold on my number plates wherever possible

I drove around for nearly a month with no front plate, even passed a few police cars and never had a problem.

If it was the new golf I'd do it without worrying. But the police always seem more interested in a blacked out impreza with a vocal exhaust

Very sticky numberplate pads from Halfords is a better solution than allowing the dealer to make more holes in your bodywork.

If you have an Enzo it is Ok to not have a front plate (a friend had one & apparently Ferrari negotiated an exemption with the powers that be)
If you don't have an Enzo I suggest you get something sorted out...

Depends on your luck. You might be fine, or you might not. Keep the plate in the cabin and if you get pulled, explain what happened. No guarantees, but you should be OK.

Or claim that your vehicle manufacturer has negotiated an exemption due to it being st hot and that they need to check the Police database for 'special' vehicles.

£100 (possibly £60) fine and no points if they do decide to be a dick

7 years, no front plate here.

Pulled twice, no ticket, just a request to get a plate.

Decent number plate tape, apply to plate, warm up to activate the glue, stick to car.

Job done.

As far as I know, pub wisdom, ie not true.

Lots of Ferraris and quite a few other vehicle run around without front plates. It's a construction and use offence, doesn't attract licence points and was at one time, only a £30 fine (might be more now). Commonly left off Grinnall Scorpions, and new versions of Morgan three wheelers.

Because some people think the law doesn't apply to them and the plate makes the front of their pretty car look all ugly.

I got pulled earlier this year, £100 fine but I passed the attitude test and got told to replace it.
