'Us' & ....... 'Them'.

Now, for starters I do appreciate that not everybody is into cars like us, buuuuuut, does anybody else sometimes look at other driver's cars & just completely fail to understand why they chose that particular car over all the others available? I'd love to stop & ask some people just out of curiosity.
Things like this:

Obviously there are many many more bland & uninspiring cars out there, but why do people buy these things when there are much better alternatives at similar prices?
(Other examples of bland & uninspiring cars are more than welcome).

A mate of mine bought a Kia Sedona recently and he absolutely loves it.
He's got 2 kids so a saloon, hatch or estate would be adequate, it wasn't particularly cheap, it isn't particularly economical, it isn't built well, it doesn't drive nicely, it doesn't look good and it isn't a status symbol. I have no idea why he likes it.

There's "car enthusiast" and "non car enthusiast", but there's also something else that defines people, the general quest for 'nice things'. Even if I'm buying a pedal bin (as I am at the moment), it has to look good, have clever features and operate in a smooth and quality way. I'm one of these 'nice things' people you see. Some people just don't care and will buy any bin that suits their needs.

I'm sure people who are into their smartphones would look at my phone and be equally scornful.
People simply have different interests. There's no point being snobbish about it.
You misunderstand me, this isn't about being snobbish, it's about buying an inferior product when for the same price you could get a reasonably decent car.People simply have different interests. There's no point being snobbish about it.

What's wrong with the little Kia? Can't see it being any worse to drive than a similar Renault, Vauxhall or Ford. And I suspect it was cheaper and came with a much better warranty.

Darned thing won Car Of The Year or some such nonsense. The buying public generally had more sense and stayed away in droves - yet a few did still slip through the net.
It's ugly, but it's a bloody good car. In fact it would be my choice if I was in the market for a people carrier.Darned thing won Car Of The Year or some such nonsense. The buying public generally had more sense and stayed away in droves - yet a few did still slip through the net.

Well said Sir, I'm with you on this
Thanks.Being a car enthusiast over-rides this of course; I'd buy an ugly car if it drove well (e.g. the Evora, or even my current Z4C). For random everyday stuff though, like toasters and kettles, for me they have to look good, the controls have to have a quality feel to them and it has to incorporate clever design features. It takes me ages to choose things and find things I like sometimes!

People are all to quick to moan about blandness, and then when someone comes out with a bold interesting design they condemn it as ugly.
