Hi

I live in South East London. The timing belt on my 166 V6, manual, came away at the weekend, so I really need a good mechanic who can give me an honest price for the work that will now need doing. Will need to pick it up from where I live (SE13).

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks
JM

Autolusso in Houghon Regis. They'll collect your car if needed.

in my experience its sometimes cheaper to replace the engine all together, you have all the obvious stuff like valves etc but you usually always need the bottom end worked on so if you get it done by an alfa specialist you're talking big bucks.

Paul at aforalfa. I'm sure he will be far cheaper than anyone listed above.

he does all of the work on my 145 qv.

Autolusso are overpriced IMO.

Its a bit of a trek but I'd suggest A for Alfa as well. Good and cheap are a rare combination, but everything I've ever had done there counts on that front (though I can't say I've ever needed a full engine rebuild luckily!)

Just replace the engine with a known good one for a few hundred quid, otherwise it will cost a fortune to repair with labour at 4-5 days I'd suggest going the replacement engine route.

if you're in South East London head out to Day & White at Brands Hatch.
PM me for full address or tel. no. They have years of Alfa / Lancia experience and are very helpful.

I get all my work done there.

They'll give you an honest assessment of whatever needs doing.

I was down there the other day and John (White) is currently running one of the last V6 166s made

Agree with AforAlfa, I only ever go there and don't touch anyone else smile

Indeed they do but I suspect it's because they can't build the engine right in the 1st place wink

I think they'd take exception to that, smiley or otherwise: care to explain?

It's just a personal opinion/view, no more, no less smile

It's not a personal opinion though Scott, because you wrote "they can't build the engine right in the 1st place" - it's libel.

If it's not too late, I heartily recommend Keith Waite of K&L Autos in Golders Green. An Alfa specialist, he's worked on my Hawk with its Alfa engine for four years. He also races his own cars in various Alfa championships and, at the last count, owns fourteen Alfas himself.

An honest and decent man. His only drawback is being a Gooner. But, you can't have it all, I suppose.

Link to his rubbish website and phone number

Tell him the guy with the red and white Hawk sent you.

Agreed - speak to Keith at K and L - I've known him for years through Alfa racing!

I just this second received a text from him. Unfortunately, in his excitement, he mispelled the word "Spurs"

hehe

I was going to reply some quick and witty but can't think of anything

Maybe I should of worded it different so it shows it's my personal opinion but ho hum, I ain't the only 'Anti Autolusso' around and everyone knows my views on the subject argue
