Gulf coloured Cerbera!

OK the time has come! The Cerbera's been sat in the garage and not moved for 18 months so it's off to see Andy at APM for an MOT etc, but I'm also looking at getting it resprayed in the colourscheme I've always wanted which is the Gulf colours. I understand there's a specialist based in the same estate as APM?

So do I keep it original and have a light wedgewood blue and pale orange 70's style, or modernise it with a metallic? Maybe use the light blue the Noble M400 uses and a bright orange?

What do you think, and before anyone tells me it'll spoil it and I won't be able to sell, sorry, but it's my car, and it's not for sale, it's the car I've always wanted in the colour I've always wanted! :-)

If you're going for a classic colour scheme like that then I'd keep to the original paint rather than trying to update it.

Andy uses a paintshop round the corner from his workshop afaik.
They did the paint on the front of my 2nd cerb and I was pretty pleased with the results.
Have you considered wrapping the car instead?

All down to personal choice isn't it. I don't like the 'Gulf' colours - they may look OK on a hard core racing car, but it's not a 'Gulf' car is it, you're just copying something - bit naff in my eyes.

But Cerbs's do suit wild colours, so go for something either 'loud and classy', or 'loud and wild'.

they did my outriggers lastyear and I am still mulling over whether or not to get them to respray/refurb one of my bikes. I've been to meet the bloke and he seems pretty good, does stuff for other dealers and individuals locally etc

Go for it. Personally I'd wrap it, should taste change in the future. Anyway it will make your car a head-turner for sure.

Since it will not be the real McCoy anyway, I think you can also modernise the colour scheme a bit to your taste. There was a thread on here somewhere with some ideas already.

Just go for it .. I did my 450 SEAC myself - just for fun as I was going to Le Mans.

Definitely get it wrapped - it will cost a lot less (around £2k all in), look just as good, protect the original paint and can be removed in a few hours if/when you want to sell. A permanent Gulf paint job may appeal to some, but for most buyers I think it may be a step too far. I think it will look great though, but definitely get it wrapped!!

mikeinsheffield should be along in a minute - he had his cerb stickered per a gulf car.
His car is already a lightish blue and so he only added the orange bits.
Maybe that would be an option - paint your car light blue and add the orange bits as stickers.

Some sensible advice here ..

My paint cost was about £500 - for primer and 3 colours (Blue, orange, black).

Sorry for the delay in transmission - been up to eye's with work lately..... Pics of mine from Le Mans as requested If I'd have had the time the "mouth" would have looked better with an orange surround, but as it was we applied these the day before leaving, aided by a few beers (therefore they're not perfectly applied - but look OK without close inspection).

I got the inspiration for the stickers looking at the 2009 "stickered up for Le Mans" thread that was running, and looking at the photos. Starting with a light blue car sealed it for me, and as Roly also has a similar coloured Chim and we were travelling down together, well, it would be rude not to....

Can't remember the name of sticker company - but I took it from thread mentioned above and is one recommended by other PHer's. Also can't remember how much (not much use here, am I ?) but it didn't break the bank....

Was faily easy to apply - but you really need two people for the stripes and bigger stickers.

I saw this too, lovely car, as was yours Gazzab. Myself and the Mrs saw you giving it some beans passed us on the way home. Her comment? "Christ it looks like its about to take off!"
