Retro fit aircon to boxster?

Is it possible to retro fit aircon to a boxster without it? Has anyone had it done (or to any porsche) and if so how much did the OPC charge?

Yes i know some will say you dont need to as it is a convertible but it is just incase! Do any of you find that aircon is still a must with the roof down in weather like we are having at the moment?

Aircon is always a must...but I fear would be cheaper to sell up and buy a boxster with it rather than retro fit.

Yep, I shouldn't think there's £4k-£5k difference in price, but it'd probably cost that to fit.

As much as that to have it fitted? I had assumed that given the car was designed with a space for the setup, it would cost little more than what is does from the factory; certainly the impression the OPC gave me.

Yes, that's true but consider that they'd have to take half the car apart to fit it. At OPC rates, you'd be looking at a stupid amount of money.

i recently stripped an entire aircon system from a 996 as part of a reshell since it wasnt needed. it was a PITA and that was with everything removed from the car, it was almost the last thing to come out, i cant imagine what it would be like trying to get it all in there with the car together. a significant amount of hours for sure as theres lots of parts prevent access or removal of parts that in themselves arent complex.
you will also have to pull the entire dashboard out in order to replace the blower unit and strip the rest of the interior to run wiring if not already there.

its very much possible but expect it to be a big big job in terms of labour alone.
parts are pretty pricey too: just the blower unit alone will cost you about £1200. the compressor about £1100, the lines are about £150 each and you need 10 different pieces, condensors at about £600 plus then all the misc bits and bobs.
