Right I am interested to know peoples thoughts on whats best on a Cayman S on 19" rims. I currently have Bridgestone RE050 N0 tyres fitted all round at the moment. 235/35x19 front and 265/35x19 rear. Both front are coming down to 3mm and one rear so are ready to be replace soon. One rear tyre is almost new and these are what are fitted when I brought the car a week ago. Now my dilemma is to replace the three worn tyres with Bridgestone or four of something else possibly better. The problem with the Bridgestone is they are noisy compared to a mates Cayman S on Michelin the same size. So has anybody tried different brands and found one they like better than others and if so why?

Think THE tyre of the moment is Michelin Pilot Super Sport.
I haven't used them and run Cups but have heard they are awesome!

Michelin Pilot Sport 2's are difficult to beat imo. They are not only less noisy than Bridgestones, but I have found them to offer more grip particularly in cold conditions.

Are the supersports not the modern equivalent of the PS2 though?

Yip, been discussed at length on here though and as they WILL imminently be N rated, Porsche will honour your warranty if you fit them smile

Apparently they are exclusively used at the Porsche experience centre Silverton.

Thanks chaps as I thought the Mich are the tyre of choice. I did wonder if the Continental would be up there but it seems that Michelin will be going on my car at some time soon. As for them only being 6mm that will not be a problem as the Cayman is not my daily drive. I have been out for a run in it today and am loving being a Porsche owner.

You got that in writing? My local OPC told me explicitly that fiting MPSS would invalidate my extended OPC warranty, and I know I'm not alone.

No, my old car is way out of warranty, I'm only going on the discussions on this forum, so if you've been told "No" then that must be the case!

Maybe I caught the wrong end of the stick, I do have a crap memory. They are definitely fitted to the cars at the Silverstone driving experience centre though which is surprising if they won't let regular customers fit them. Maybe someone with a better memory than I can confirm it soon.

'N-ratings'... load of marketing bks if you ask me. I wouldn't pay a premium for them unless you really needed to keep a warranty valid.

this. it's like using only mobil 1 oil cuz the sticker says so on your porsche.

Pilot Super Sports non-N are so much better than the overpriced PS2s it's not even funny. miss out on the party if y'all want.

As I understand it, any tyre can be fitted without invalidating the manufacturer's warranty but the extended warranty is an insurance policy whose terms can be as restrictive as they like. So it depends if your car is over 2 years old (the third year of new warranties being an extended warranty).

Yeah that's about the long and short of it.

MPSS validity seems a bit scattershot, there is a guy on here (Gibbo) who seems to have managed to get a thumbs up from his local OPC. Others including myself have been told straight up that "non N-rated tyres = warranty void".

I agree that the fact they use them on their Experience Days is effectively a qualification that they're suitable, but that doesn't really help us owners.

I'd love to fit MPSS but putting my warranty at any kind of risk of rejection seems counter-productive to me. Would be a nightmare if my engine went pop and Porsche used my non N-rated tyres as an excuse not to pay out.

I do. smile

Compared to the PS2 N-rated, they are without doubt superior at absolutely everything. smile

Yup I mentioned you above. Unfortunately your experience isn't shared by everyone else. frown Roll on N-rating approval I guess.

Yeah I guess its a mixed response, but my OPC did not make the decision they ask the decision makers due to previous issues with my car and warranty, it was them who gave the answer. So maybe OPC's who are saying no are not actually asking the big boys and are just sticking to the stance no n-rating, then no go.

As the MPSS has been proven to perform better on 911's and has been designed for it, has left Porsches from the factory with it and is in use at the experience centre, it makes sense to allow it. smile

Has anyone got Porsche GB's contact details? Maybe it's worth firing off an email to them directly and getting a definitive response that we can all print out?

Need to ensure its for cars under extended warranty as well.

As Porsche new warranty you can fit any tyre you wish anyway pretty much, the extended warranty has far tighter rules.
