Hinged bonnets
Discussion
I have finished my version of the tuscan hinged bonnet with both bonnets being seperate and opening simultaneously . The large bonnet is held down with two griff bonnet catches ( operated by solenoids) and the small one buy the two linkages to the large bonnet and also two electro magnets when the engine is running.

Me too... how much simpler would that be! Peter Brem has one as well as per:

And there is a post in the TVRCC Tuscan forum to see how many people would be interested in a similar version £500 ish....

I'm also interested..Again How much??? How much modification to the main bonnet (under the inspection bonnet) ?? Can you post some photos of the main bonnet hinge attachment please... main concern is the stress put on the lower end of the main bonnet, How much beefing up have you done??? Don't want paint crazing...although I guess it's hidden.
My main reason for wanting it, is because of the recent engine fires....at least if you can open the bonnet quickly, you have half a chance with an extinguisher...Automatic gas system also on my wishlist.
Dave...would you be prepared to work with Surface & Design in Blackpool for them to supply your solution (for us lads up norf).???
May be you sell a kit and they fit it and do the fabrication??.

To all those who have asked I was not planning to offer this as a conversion but if anyone wants to do it I will help . The front of the large bonnet round the fans is cut away to allow the bonnet to move . The hinges (B&Q?)are mounted on the fibreglass ledge in front of the oil tank . The linkage to the small bonnet was cut from aluminium plate and pushes where the stay is and is duplicated on the drivers side .This was not stable enough at speed so I used a pair of holding magnets (35mm I think) from maplins . The main problem is to get the small bonnet lifting quickly to clear the large bonnet opening without it moving to far at full open position .The centre location hole in the small bonnet would always catch so had to be ground off and I put an alaminium ramp in its place with a lip so it locks when closed . If anyone wants to see it in more detail i am probably going to take it to Knebworth , thanks , David
I like that very much
and for a number of reasons would love to convert my main bonnet.
Problem is that I work away all the time and have absolutely no chance of doing it myself (even if I new how).
I am one of a number of us who will have to wait until a workshop adds this kind of mod to their list of upgrades.
Very frustrating.
And my wife asked me what I wanted for my 50th birthday !?!?!?!

looks fabulous - and give it another month and more sheety weather and I might well go for it.
any chance of some more detail on the big bonnet cutting. hinge plates etc etc. A few inside the bonnet pics would be wonderful.
did the "conversion" require any respray of either bonnet.
cheers
Craig

Here are the pictures showing how much is cut and the hinge assembly , none of which is visible with the bonnets closed . The main reason I am not keen on offering this is there would be paintwork involved , thanks for all the positive comments , David
