98, 4.2, 72k, engine pulling like a train.
Outriggers being replaced next month, otherwise no niggles.

2001 4.5 24k 415bhp 370lb/ft tiny rattle from the heat shield over the back box, apart from that it's solid as a rock and goes like stink!

Hi, another AJP or a Chevrolet? Why a transplant (curious, not being judgemental)rather than just keep going?

I have driven all 108k miles and I love the cerb. Intend to keep it for a long time so a rebuild is almost inevitable at some stage while I own it so I might as well enjoy a new engine now. Realise that not everyone agrees with a transplant but the LS3 is a great engine and much more flexible than the AJP. Arguably Peter Wheeler should have gone down this route and who knows where TVR would be today. I drive the car everyday in the congested SE so I am looking forward to an engine that will be as happy in slow congested traffic as it is blasting free. Will I miss the foilbes of the AJP, probably but with a smile on my face. Topcats do a great job and I can hardly wait until they have finished.

Go for a 4.7!! If APM are doing a refresh anyway it seems like a great excuse to go much much quicker!

Fair enough, I can see the appeal. The reduced servicing costs (no valves to shim) should help offset the conversion over the next 108 k miles smile

97 4.2 Cerb , full service history , showing 23 k on the clock.

On its second bottom end / block.

Original rattle cam heads, but 3 cam lobs starting to wear.

Engine to be replaced soon with a freshly rebuilt AJP, with slight mods

Graham, when you say rattle cams, is that another phrase for clatter cams? When did TVR move to the softer cam profile?

PS - '97 4.2, 50k miles, perfect oil pressure, no cam wear (touchwood...).

Yes I ment clatter cams,, I'm not sure when the softer profile came in.

But my new AJP does have the softer cams.

Wish I had the money!
While engine's out there's plenty of work to eat my bank account!! New fuel lines, oil hoses, coolant hoses, coolant pipes, new heat shielding, rear brake disks, new exhaust manifold, maybe upgrade suspension.

BUT...its tempting!

Mmm, I've always been interested as to whether mine has them. It does have a noisy camtrain, but I suppose all AJPs sound uncouth compared to most engines.

Clatter cams have a turning nut on the shaft next to the last 2 lobes.

The later cams with the softer profile don't.

Or so I've been told by a man who's well respected in Cerbera circles

And I can confirm my currant engine has the nut on the cams, and my new engine doesn't.
