Hey all, just wanted to share the car I picked up today.

Been working up to buying something nice (cue 'it's a Golf' comments wink )for a few years now so I'm pretty stoked about having this sitting on my driveway!

Has a fair few toys, some standard but others options. Ones I like most are: electric sunroof, electric folding mirrors, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, heated seats, 6 CD disc changer, and Bi-Xenon headlamps w/ headlight washers.

Haldex 4WD works a treat on damp roundabouts wink

Previous car was a MkIV 2.0 8v, and before that I had a 1.2 Corsa B for over three years.

Pics were taken from the place I bought it from, we have snow and lots of salty roads so the car is now absolutely filthy frown

Best bit about the car has to be the noise! Sounds properly brutal without droning on a cruise.

Things to do:

Replace rubber mats with carpeted ones (probably .:R-logo'd, which can be bought via VW stealers)
Although tracking was supposedly done a couple of months ago, the steering wheel doesn't sit perfectly straight (more noticable as there are enormous bolsters on it) so will need to get that done again.
Possibly get a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 3s put on, the Dunlops generate a lot of road noise and don't have rave reviews for wet weather confidence.
Front seats don't pull forward smoothly (known issue on the Mk5s) so will see if I can free it up a bit

That's it for now - until it comes to taxing it in May. Only the small price of £475/yr... I'm convincing myself it'll be worth it though tongue out

Hoping to take it to some Sunday Services this year too smile

Lovely car smile

Re: Steering wheel....I seem to remember some VW products have UK specific camber settings which are set due to our heavily cambered roads. Two of the three VAG cars I've had, have had steering wheels that haven't sat straight ahead, however my MkV GTI seems better.

I fitted Conti SportContact 5s to mine last year and love them. Really good alround tyre, and something I find true on the tyres we use at work as well...Conti's always seem to be a good 'everywhere' tyre. Michelin's though are also very good, and Dunlops are OK in most conditions but seem to fall apart if you drive them hard for long. Could be that people are knocking the edges off the Dunlops which makes them fairly skittish in the wet.

Enjoy!

A couple of people have mentioned the Conti 5s now, may have to check them out. Thanks smile

Yep, I'm having a hard time believing it's the standard exhaust. Will have to check properly sometime just to ease my concern tongue out

Great sleeper. Doesn't attract too much attention other than from those who know what it is, until you hear it! Lovely car.

As much as I dislike the the VW range fo cars I do have a hankering for an R32 since I drove one we had in at work - the main reason... the noise.

The only issue I have with it as that it has no presence unlike the MKIV

My mate has the mk4 one of these with a very anti social stainless steel exhaust. Definitely one of the best sounding engines out there!

Looks great, enjoy.

I'm on my 2nd mkv r32 and weirdly both steering wheels seem to be slightly off centre- perhaps a trait?

Do like these cars, I'd pick one over a Mk4... but at the same time not sure they're better looking. It's the wheels and grill that let it down imo! The blue is a great colour though, my neighbours son has one in grey and it looks very classy.

Very nice, I have a MK5 GTI which I'm enjoying!

Had a similar problem with the front seats, a 15 minute job with 2x sub £1 parts from a dealer.

Guide and part numbers here! http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,...

I love these things, chiefly for the exhaust note. Good work.

Snap! Lovely car!

If you change the head unit for NAV and bluetooth (if you dont have it already), DO NOT go for the Kenwood stuff. Rather go OEM, its worth the extra.

Probably one of the best v6 noises there is especially with a non res exhaust. You got it in the best colour in my opinion. Hope you enjoy.

You got last of the breed. It's like people who get the last of the Alfa GT V6 3.2 I had the MK6 R and while it was better resolved as a car, I think it didn't work as a whole without a creamy smooth VR6.
