Hi guys,

I've been thinking about having Daytime Running Lights fitted to my car, but I don't really fancy doing the job myself. I've asked both my local Toyota dealer and Halfords, but neither will do it for me (which seems a little odd if I'm honest). Any ideas as to where else I could go, or who else I could ask?! I mean the videos on Youtube look straightforward enough, but I'm not exactly a pro when it comes to wiring etc.

Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Cheers,

Mini1

Why would you want to ruin the look of your car in that way? If you want to annoy and blind all the other drivers coming the other way just drive around with your fog lights on.

You need to rephrase your question. The way you've written it, it makes it look like you WANT to fit DLRs? That couldn't be right, surely you mean you want to remove them?

What car?

On the TT Forum there's a fella call WAS. He fit's DRL's into the Mk1 TT in an almost OEM fashion and they do look great with proper functions like dimming when you're indicating.

If you paid him enough money I'm sure he could fit something similar to anything. However, be careful as depending on the car, it may look ste.

I haven't yet seen an aftermarket DRL kit that looks good.

If you're worried about not being seen, then just put your lights on.

I presume you mean you want wk looking LEDs on your car ? Because DRL's are just normal lights.. Ask 80's Vovlo owners

If you really feel the need for DRL's then just put your sidelights on. These stupid sparkly LED kits just look fking gash on anything that didnt have them fitted originaly. New cars that have them fitted is fair enough seeing as it will be required by law from next year(?)

I won't come here again if this is the attitude. DRLs are now part of UK law for all NEW cars - they're safer and help you to be seen more quickly. Also more economical than turning your headlights on. If you can't deal with them, fine, but at least give me a decent answer.

Sidelights are nowhere near as bright and use up more fuel and energy. I didn't ask for people's opinions on the LEDs. And new cars have to have them fitted from THIS MONTH - FEB 2011.

Never mind, I'll go elsewhere.

Well I'm hardly going for that now, am I. That's just too much. And I'm most definitely not having them put inside my headlight casings!

I don't know how difficult it is to fit DRLs yourself - your own skill-level with the spanners and confidence will dictate whether you want to try.

However, I would suggest that it's cheaper to use your dipped headlights than investing in the DRL kit (cost of kit + fitting + usage vs cost of headlight usage). I tend to drive around in the Caterham with the headlights on all the time, and the Volvo has the dipped beams on permanently anyway.

LED DRLs always get a bad reaction here <shrug> although I was thinking to myself that I hadn't seen a "Grrrrr DRLs" thread for a while hehe

Er, who says they're safer and help you be seen more easily - evidence please.

I'm intrigued because I'm yet to see convincing evidence for day time lights on motorcycles never mind cars.

As for economy wouldn't just buying a light coloured car be better for the planet wink

All over the internet mate, have a look. That's WHY this new UK law has been introduced. They've had daytime running lights in Scandinavia for YEARS, and you see cars with lights on far, far quicker than without.

Thank you, finally a polite reply. A pleasant change from the battering I've had from other forum members smile
